Bright, cosy double room in welcoming Victorian home 30 minutes from Central London.

The house is on a quiet and friendly cul-de-sac on a hill: I know all my neighbours! It's clean, comfortable and cosy, centrally-heated but with working Victorian fireplaces, a modern kitchen, a roomy bathroom with bath and shower, and a small but perfectly-formed garden.

The space
The room is at the back of the house, very light and overlooking my lovely neighbour’s leafy garden. It’s a calm space. There's a double bed with storage space underneath, wardrobe, drawers, desk, chair, bedside table and three lamps. Bedding and towels are provided.

I have two steep staircases in my house – one to the bedrooms and the other to the bathroom – so night-time trips to the bathroom can be interesting!

My guests are welcome to use the kitchen and dining room. The kitchen is well equipped with gas hob and oven, washing machine, fridge, freezer. Clothes can be dried in the garden or at the local launderette, which I use myself in winter.

There’s a guest kitchen cupboard with tableware and cutlery and some basics: coffee, tea, sugar, salt and pepper, oil. Milk is delivered so let me know if you’d like to add to the order.
The bathroom is shared.

Please feel free to relax in the garden. My home is a no-smoking space, but you’re welcome to smoke in the garden.

Where you’ll be

Greater London, England, United Kingdom

West Norwood has become much more interesting of late, with a leisure centre, Picturehouse cinema, book and record bar, community arts centre, artisan baker, delis, gastropub, independent coffee shops and restaurants joining the South London Theatre, clock museum, iconic Victorian cemetery, traditional Portuguese and award-winning greasy spoon cafes on the high street. Norwood Park has great views over London. West Norwood Feast - a vibrant community street market festival – takes place the first Sunday of every month from April to December, and the Portico Gallery hosts regular art exhibitions, live world music, ceilidh and salsa nights. There are four supermarkets on the high street, a daily fruit and veg stall , and a halal shop.

It’s a cosmopolitan neighbourhood!

Thursday's child has far to go... I do hope so... I'm an experienced traveller with a love both of discovering new places and revisiting places I've been happy before. My great passions in life are world music and dance. I'm a great festival-goer too - WOMAD, Essaouira Gnaoua Festival, Festival des Nomades in Morocco... I like to immerse myself in the culture of a place - its language, history, traditions, culture, food. But I love the natural world, too - trekking in the mountains, swimming in open water, the silence of the desert. I'm sociable and love to laugh - making new contacts is the best thing about travelling!

During your stay

I work a couple of days a week from home, and am currently spending many of my weekday evenings at home working on a project I want to pursue in Morocco. But I’m sociable so I’m happy to chat, provide advice and suggestions for your visit to London. I love the rich variety of culture London has to offer and the hidden gems that are not on the usual tourist trail. I’m a jazz and world music fan, so I usually know what’s on in town.
