Longboat key is a great place to stay. The location of this house is perfect! It is in a great neighborhood and close to everything we wanted to do. This house has the potential to receive five stars. However, there are a few problems that need to be addressed before I can give it five stars. The back door has a locking problem and we were never able to completely secure it during the week we stayed. I'm sure Robert will take care of this, but it did cause my wife some stress. Also, there is a slight problem with ants. We used the spray in the laundry room and this helps. I would stay here again, but I would make sure these things were fixed first.

Response from Robert:
"Perfect location..." Kevin, thank you for your suggestions. We are fortunate to be so close to the beach, in a beautiful neighborhood. I am always trying to make our house better. We had challenges with our last renter before your arrival. As we discussed already you were given a discount and we are updating things. Thank you again. I look forward to seeing you upon your return.

Roberts house is in a very quiet residential area on a lovely island with many beaches within a few miles. The house is a unique spanish style. The house does not seem to be lived in on an ongoing basis and therefor has some issues. The grounds are not particularly maintained as shown in pictures. The windows have not been cleaned in a long time. The bedrooms and baths have musty odors from lack of air circulation. There are ants in the kitchen often. There are electrical switch issues and several light bulbs that don't work. The setting has wonderful potential on a canal and one lovely beach is in walkable distance. Although traffic is very bad during tourist season many lovely areas are within driving distance (Sarasota,Anna Maria and the number 1 beach in USA)

Response from Robert:
Thank you for your feedback for both appreciating our home and secluded beaches. We can not help your issues with the rainy weather, but we do have central air. Thus, you preferred to open the windows or slightly crack the windows which may have let the ants and the humid air in. As for the couple of light bulbs, we resolved the matter once you brought this to my attention. Again thank you.

Beautiful neighborhood. Very quiet and relaxed. Absolutely gorgeous home. Incredibly inspiring artwork, architecture, and furnishings. Private beach access at the top of / across the road. Publix / liquor / gas a five-ish minute drive. St. Armands is also very close by! Great shopping & restaurants. Robert is a great & attentive host, and was readily available during my stay.

Thank you for your kind remarks about your recent visit in our Beach/Canal Villa. I am delighted your appreciation detail impresses you. The Villa is a work of art made with love & inspiration from our travels. The Beach is a great amenity just to walk to daily for sunsets, shelling or yoga. Glad you made time to visit the Ringling Museum and our marvelous island restaurants. I look forward to welcoming you for your next visit. Robert

We booked in for a week in late December 2016. We liked the neighborhood and location, the openness of the layout and Robert was extremely communicative and helpful in situating us by phone and email. However, we were quite disappointed in the general lack of cleanliness and lack of the common amenities we expect from an Airbnb rental. Most uncomfortable was the bedding and towels. The master bedroom has a king bed with a king bottom sheet, but the top sheet and comforter are for a queen. The comforter was old, lumpy and did not feel clean. In the other bedroom, the linens fit the bed, but felt old and rough and the mattress sags and has lumps. We have recommended that Robert renew the linens and towels and if he does, it will improve your experience. Also, the utility room was not clean or neat; the bikes had flat tires and there were old detergent containers lying around. Robert asked that we enter the home from the rear door but there are no lights on the path so getting there at night needed a flashlight.

Thank you for taking the time to share your kind remarks and suggestions about your recent stay. I am delighted you especially enjoyed our location, neighborhood, & ambiance. You came just before Christmas & stayed over New Year's Eve; thus, our normal cleaning lady does immaculate cleaning but was out of town. I had another company come over to clean for you the following day, and thought we all made up for any inconvenience with all the wine, flowers, and chocolates for your stay. We recently purchased a new kingsize mattress and new comforters, linens etc. I did point out to you our garage was off limits as well as it contents which included the bikes. With all my phone calls with you, recommendations, and help, I am surprised you did not bring some of this up directly. Thank you again for sharing your feedback and sorry some of your expectations where not completely met. All my best!

We had a little snag in finding the Designers Villa because of missing an email with the phone number we needed to call to make contact as Robert was out of town. After all this settled in it was a beautiful quiet neighborhood that took our breath away. Although we did have a misunderstanding as to how close we were to the beach we were right on the canal with our own dock tables and chairs. Robert checked in on us several times to make sure that things are okay. Both Robert and his sister made sure we got settled in a day later. The address that Airbnb have us was incorrect and Robert and his sister's email could not be found on the Airbnb site. So glad he got our phone messages with information to get a hold of us as all he had prior to that was my home number. Both Robert and Jami were quite relieved when we finally made contact with each other the next morning unfortunately we had to drive back to Sarasota to rent a hotel room for the first night. Our trip was quite an adventure. The Villa was a treasure with something new to enjoy all the time.

Robert was a very attentive host. He made sure we had the correct address and knew how to get into his home. We spoke many times throughout our stay and enjoyed many of his recommendations. Any questions we had were answered quickly and to our satisfaction. The open floor plan aided in enjoying the view of his back yard and canal as well as the art displayed in his home. The house is much nearer to the northern end of the island making the many restaurants on Bradenton Beach as accessible as those on S. Armands Circle. Don't forget to enjoy the many restaurants on Longboat Key. The beach is within easily reached destination. While the nearest public beach access has only handicapped parking there are two others very near so one can watch the sun set and then feast at one of the many fine restaurants.

Robert was a very attentive host. He wanted to talk as soon as the reservation was confirmed, then on the day I arrived and the following day to make sure I had everything I needed. His second home is lovely. It is on a quiet street, just a few-minute walk from the beach. It sits on a canal that was so inviting that we rented a kayak for the week and saw many sea birds and dolphins (water not warm enough yet for Manatees). We had wonderful restaurant meals on Long Boat but also had a well equipped kitchen to prepare our own meals. We loved being able to relax in the spacious living area that was decorated with so many interesting objects from foreign lands. The bedrooms each had their own private bath and that made them feel like private suites. The WiFi made it possible to squeeze in a little work over coffee but within minutes, because of the the proximity to nature you could be on the beach or paddling to Sisters Key in minutes. Truly a unique place.
