Les Village in which La Kubu is located is special -- it offers the sea, the hillsides spring and waterfalls, and mountain forest and caves. Its local Hindu culture is strong and the ebb and flow of life here is governed by the tides, the moon, and ever-recurring Hindu ceremonies.

La Kubu is only 200 meters away from the sea where you can have a leisurely walk or jog on the elevated and tiled seafront promenade. You can swim with the local villagers and snorkel the fringing reefs a few meters away from the coast.

Link up with Sea Communities eco-tourism program and you can scuba dive, plant corals and do coral reef rebuilding, teach English to village kids, go pelagic fishing at night and ornamental fishing in the morning.

Walk around the village and experience its many temples, its public bath, morning wet market. It's hillsides is a veritable orchard -- rambutans, coconuts, cloves, mangoes interspersed with the fragrant and beautiful frangipanis.

The village pride, Yeh Mempeh Waterfalls, set in a caldera-like forested enclosure, is 20-30 minutes walk away from La Kubu (or 10 minutes if you motorbike part of the way). Here you can have a torrential bathe and pounding water massage.

The villagers are friendly. They will smile and greet you on the road. No one would follow you selling T-shirts or pester you with souvenirs and shades for sale.

There are professional masseuse in the village and they can do villa service upon request.

Les is a walkable village and we encourage you to experience it on foot. If you must hurry there are ojeks (for rent motorcycles with driver) who can ferry you anywhere in the village for IDR5,000 to IDR10,000.

Singaraja, Bali's second largest city and city closest to Les, is 45 minutes away by private car. You can also ride ojeks (motorcycles with drivers) for negotiated rates.

Also 45 minutes away is Tulamben, a famous wreck and coral garden dive site.

1 hour away by car are Kintamani, Lovina and Amed. 1.5 to 2 hour away is Ubud. Denpasar/Sanur is 3 hours away.

Transportation from the airport or any point in Bali to La Kubu is available upon request.

For those who are driving from Denpasar, take the road going to Ubud and up to Kintamani. Where the road branches into two -- one for Kubutambahan and one for Madenan/Tejakula follow the road to Madenan/Tejakula until you reach the coastal road in Bondalem. Take a right turn heading to Amlapura. You will pass the village of Tejakula. Les comes next. The bridge separating it from Tejakula has road signs "DESA LES" and 'WATERFALLS". Take a left turn on the 3rd street to your left from the bridge. The corner of this street has a large red signboard with "SEA COMMUNITIES" and several arrows. Follow this local road until you see a small store to the left. La Kubu is beside this small store. You can reach us by mobile phone for further directions.

We stayed at La Kubu for 3 nights. Made and his staff were very friendly and helpful. The room had basic, but good facilities with AC. The private garden area was very nicely done and very well kept. Made and his family were very welcoming and accommodating. Breakfast was traditional Balinese and was served in the lovely garden. Made also invited us to a wedding of one of his relatives. After giving us traditional Balinese clothes we went to the wedding which we loved as we got to experience a Balinese tradition first hand with authentic Balinese food! Tejakula is a very quite fishing area, and apart from a few resort hotels, it has not been touched by the tourist industry and therefore it is very peaceful and authentic. Made also arranged us a boat ride to go to Gili Air and at a fee he drove us there and also drove us to our next location which was across the island, in South Kuta. On our way Made stopped us to see interesting places and temples and gave us a lot of information which we found very interesting. We recommend staying at La Kubu! Thank you Made! Patrick and Maria

This place is a hidden gem, the perfect place to relax and immerse yourself in the local culture. Made was extremely welcoming and helpful, he arranged our taxi to his place from Amed and drove us himself down to Denpasar. Also his staff member Agus was excellent, very accommodating and willing to help you out with anything you needed. The villas and gardens are stunning, a lovely tranquil environment with the seafront only a 5-10min walk away. There are plenty of warungs nearby serving local food, and you can use the bicycles or rent the motorbike cheaply to get around the north coast. Overall an amazing unique place with some of the friendliest people you will ever meet, therefore it is highly recommended if you want a true experience of Bali.

We had some trouble finding the guesthouse but Made kindly sent someone to greet us on the main road and to direct us. On arrival, we were extremely impressed by the quality and cleanliness of the room and we were made to feel very welcome by the helpful staff. The grounds of the guesthouse were beautiful and tranquil. We had a good nights sleep and awoke to a freshly prepared local Balinese breakfast. We then decided to go snorkelling at the nearby coast and were provided with equipment (however, the waves were too big so we didn't actually do any snorkelling in the end!). We also visited the waterfall in Les which was only a short drive, and then walk, from La Kubu and was well worth the trip. Overall, we very much enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend La Kubu to anyone passing through or in the area.

This lovely cluster of five bungalows in an immaculate courtyard was a great place to unwind. Outside are fields and a small fishing village. There are not many other options for food in walking distance. The rocky beach is 5 mins walk away and great for snorkelling but not so much for general swimming. The La Kubu hosts were very friendly and accommodating.

We were staying in LaKubu for two days but it was so beautiful and peaceful we had to stay one day longer. Even though there is not so many touristic places to see it was the most amazing stay for me and my boyfriend in Bali. The room was perfectly clean and the host was simply amazing and also very friendly. There may be only one thing that I didn't like but it is dependent on personal opinion, we had same breakfast every day. Still the best stay and totally worth the price as well. We went to see the waterfall in the area and they also had option to pay for a guide to see a bat cave but we didn't go. Also a few temples around. We just wanted to stay in LaKubu and relax haha. Absolutely recommend the place.
