This gorgeous flat, within five minutes walk of the Minster, combines the best of old and new.

The space

36 County House is a spacious and airy apartment, that sleeps 6 in comfort. Sleeping arrangements are split across three bedrooms on two floors - two king sized and one rooms with full sized bunk beds. The flat has an en suite shower room in the downstairs bedroom and there is a house bathroom (shower over bath) on the upper floor.

The kitchen has all the conveniences you would expect - microwave, standard oven, hob, kettle, toaster - and enough crockery and flatware for six. The living/dining room is a beautiful bright space with light streaming in through 3 metre high Georgian windows.

Please note that seven days is the minimum booking term at Christmas and New Year, and during August.

Guest access

Guests have free access to all areas of the apartment, although it is requested that the stairwells and common halls are kept clear, quiet and peaceful as a courtesy to our neighbours.

Interaction with guests

I live a short distance away from the flat. Access is generally via a key safe that I will tell you more about on booking. I am always available at the end of the phone to answer any questions you may, however.

Other things to note

There is a secure bike shed for visitors who wish to cycle. York is a great city for bikes - especially if you don't mind cobbles.

This was the first time we had used airbnb and our first visit to York. We couldn't believe how big the appartment was, perfect for a family of 5, with 3 children who are used to space. We loved it! The photos do not do it justice at all. After a journey of over 8 hours to get there, we loved that we could park the car and we didn't use it again until we checked out. We walked everywhere. The location is perfect for exploring York on foot. Plus the Sainsbury's is literally a 2 minute walk away. We split our trip to Yorkshire over 3 locations but this was everyone's favourite. We walked the town walls, visited the National Railway Museum, the Jorvik Viking Centre, York's chocolate story, the Shambles and its' market, went on an open top bus tour and a boat trip. We also ate out at the wonderful restaurants on offer, Caesars, Wildwood and The Viceroy were very good. All in all, an amazing city break and a perfect property. 100% communication with the host. Very smooth experience. We will definitely be coming back to York. Thank you Alis!

A great apartment in a great location. We went with 3 kids and there were plenty of toys, books and DVDs to keep them happy! Very clean and lovely bedding and towels. Highly recommended!

What a lovely home from home to stay in! We stayed at the end of July for a four day trip with three generations of family. The space was really comfortable and flexible. We didn't come across anything we needed that wasn't in the flat. Although the block is close to Sainsbury's at night the shop is shut so it didn't bother us at all. The proximity to the centre of York is great. It really is close enough to be no bother at all but just outside the walls enough to be a quiet sanctuary to return to.

We absolutely loved our stay. The flat is within a well kept building and in an amazing location. It surpassed our expectations and would stay again if we were in the area.

Where ever I go, I'm usually accompanied by a horde of children so finding somewhere nice to stay that accommodates all the family is the holy grail for me.
