A charming cob and thatch cottage with its own 1 acre meadow and a real-ale micro brewery onsite.

Meadow Cottage is the south wing of Westacott Barton, one of Devon's finest examples of a medieval open hall house (listed Grade II* with Historic England), dating back over 600 years and today set within 22 acres of stunning countryside.

Perfectly located right in the centre of Devon near the small town of North Tawton. Stunning beaches are within a 1 hour drive. Access onto Dartmoor is nearby.

The space
Set in a rural farming landscape rich in heritage, head off grid and escape busy day-to-day life. Our cottage is steeped in historical features and somewhat off the beaten track, offering you the opportunity to enjoy walking, relaxing and reconnecting with nature. Ideally suited for couples or families with older children.

Ground Floor
- Entrance hall: with terracotta floor, hooks for coats and space for wellies.
- Bathroom: with shower over bath, sink and toilet.
- Master bedroom: with Kingsize bed, Freeview TV, wardrobe, beams.

Wooden stairs lead up to First Floor
- Living/dining room: with vaulted beamed ceilings under thatch, Freeview TV, DVD player, selection of books and games.
- Kitchen: with electric cooker, hob, microwave, fridge, DAB/Bluetooth radio.
- Bedroom 2: with full sized bunk beds.

A cot for infants is available on request.

Outside utility room: with hot and cold water, washing machine, BBQs, deck chairs, bins and recycling.

One dog is most welcome along but canine comfort is slightly compromised as we have wooden stairs and floors, and we ask that dogs do not climb on beds or sofas.

The 1 acre meadow is a short walk from the cottage and is the perfect place to relax in a deck chair in the sun. The meadow is fenced and secure, and is your own private space with a picnic bench, BBQs area and rustic swing seat. In the evening, you can light the firepit and snuggle up in the copse of oak trees. You'll probably hear the resident owl and see shooting stars.

Where you’ll be

Devon, England, United Kingdom

The property is secluded and peaceful, surrounded by fields of sheep and farmland. Shops, pubs and restaurants 2 miles (by car). Bottled ales brewed onsite are available to buy from the brewery.

You may find our rural location gets a touch colder at night (and muddier!) than you are used to, even in summer. A ground source heat pump keeps the cottage heated to a steady 18-20c, but it's an ancient listed building so it can be drafty if the weather turns. We provide lots of blankets to snuggle up in, but it's worth bringing some layers and making use of the insulated window blinds and curtains at night.

I escaped from working in London a few years back. I now live with my partner Amy and our two children Daisy and Jack on an old farm in Devon. I run a micro brewery making traditional English ales. I also work as a surveyor of older buildings and I'm learning to thatch.
