I would like to thank Rachael and her crew for going beyond the line in making our holiday so amazing. I myself think that Rachael did not describe the place properly, it is much more than what she wrote.
The houses are environment-friendly, cozy and clean. If you look for something luxurious, this is not the place. But if you look for a home away from home, this is exactly the place that you should stay. I appreciate the thoughtful touch and sensible welcome I got when I arrived: little vase of wild flowers on the tea table, some in front of the door, one red hibiscus on the bed. The staffs are very friendly, helpful and gentle.
In Rachel’s place, apart from a large common space with comfortable couches for you to laze, there is a large open space with a bookshelf and some yoga mats. The wifi connection is good, then if you have some work to do, this can be a nice office as well
Rachel’s place is on Manda Island, it faces Sheila Island and about 15 minutes by boat to Lamu, 20 minutes to the airport. It is unique because you can see the other islands as close as if you could cross the sea just by swimming. The beach is 30 seconds walk from the gate and just perfect to swim or to enjoy the sunset. We often have cold beers while watching the sunset. Lunches and dinners are served by the beach if you wish.
If you plan to visit Lamu, it is better to stay here and visit Lamu and come back. It cost $15/boat for airport transfer, $5- $10/boat to Lamu (a boat can carry 6-8 people, it is so cheap per head). Boat sailing is strongly recommended.
Breakfast is lovely with fruits, eggs, toasted bread, butter – tea or coffee upon request (this is included in the rent). For lunch and dinner, they have the best pizzas and some other dishes. They don’t offer a wide range of choice but whatever they have, they make them well.
Dogs and cats are lovely and friendly. They are aware that they rule the place and master of gaining your hearts.
