The space
Cottage name is: MARKEYGATE BARN (sorry, no pets). 15% discount when book a full week. Re-opened in July 2021 after a 10 month break for family reasons. 17th century 2-bedroom (sleeps 4), 2-bathroom character cottage with limestone walls & beams in the centre of the thriving village of Tideswell (central England), yet nicely away from the road in a large secluded courtyard. The courtyard is a lovely sun-trap in the nice weather and has tables and chairs and plenty of space for both Markeygate Barn and Markeygate Cottage (also available on Airbnb) guests. Sorry, no BBQs allowed. Warm and cosy all year round - thick walls, gas central heating & gas-fired burner. High-chair and cot available on request. One ensuite bedroom downstairs too which can be useful for any guests who may struggle with normal stairs.

All windows and doors view overlook the large secluded courtyard. None can be seen from the nearest road.

Sleeps 4: (All towels, tea towels, bed linen, etc provided. If in doubt please do ask).

Cycles NOT to be stored inside your cottage please. See later details on cycle storage we can offer for guests.

*Kitchen & dining area - table and four chairs; full kitchen facilities including dishwasher, oven, hob, microwave, sink, fridge, toaster, cafetiere coffee-pot, etc;
*Bedroom No.2 - Large bedroom with ensuite, two single beds, TV, DVD player (& small range of DVDs too), wardrobe, drawers
*Bathroom No.2 - Shower room - ensuite to twin-bedroom No.2 - shower, toilet, sink and towel radiator

*Lounge - Two sofas (both comfy two seaters), extra chair, television, DVD player (small range of DVDs too) and other furniture
*Bedroom No.1 - Large bedroom with double bed, wardrobe, chest of drawers and chair.
*Bathroom No.1 - Bath, shower, toilet & sink

NOTE: If you would like a multi-fuel log burner, with two upstairs bedrooms and do not need the second bathroom, then consider our other 2-bedroom cottage across the same courtyard Markeygate Cottage -see separate Airbnb details for "17th century limestone cottage with log burner". It is a slightly lower price too, as is a little smaller.

CYCLE STORAGE - We don't have dedicated lockable cycle storage. However, what we can do for guests with cycles is to create storage space in the courtyard within a couple of metres from your cottage (and without affecting the use of the courtyard for sitting etc). We have portable cycle stands for guest use too. If you bring bike locks you can then lock together and/or lock through a heavy metal chair or railing as you prefer. We have a waterproof sheet you can use to cover your bikes too. No cycles to be stored inside your cottage please. Just remember to bring your bike locks with you.

A full information welcome pack is provided to guests online before arrival as well as printed copy in the cottage itself, including lots of information about what to do, where to go, etc.

We live in Tideswell at Markeygate House, in the beautiful Peak District protected national park. We really like the fact that in Tideswell we have all we need and often don't end up driving the car at all for many days, taking walks across the hills direct from our house. We enjoy old character cottages both to live in ourselves and to holiday rent for guests to enjoy. We love the area for the people, the countryside, pubs, walks and spectacular views,hills and rivers. At the same we are less than one hour from Manchester, Sheffield and Derby. We have four character cottages, all within 100 metres of our house - a 4-bedroom cottage, two 2-bedroom cottages and one studio-apartment. We look forward to welcoming guests to Tideswell and the Peak District. Best regards Mary & Neil Mooney (owners)

During your stay

Neil & Mary (owners) live across the main courtyard from your cottage, in Markeygate House (oldest house in the village, 15th century core). Your keys are available in a secure key box outside the apartment, giving guests complete independence for arriving and departing. We like to leave guests to enjoy their holiday, but we are always available either via knocking on our door or a telephone call, as and when guests need us or have questions, for example about where to visit or where to eat. Guests may see us in the courtyard from time to time or up the garden. We have a friendly dog Oscar, but we manage him carefully appreciating that not all guests enjoy the company of dogs. Please contact us anytime if you have any questions before or after booking your stay with us. We look forward to welcoming you to our lovely part of the world.
