Our Cabin is a little quirky, but cosy & private, nestled in our garden, down the brick path (with steps), only overlooked by our cute rabbits.
Kitchen facilities (self-catering only - BYO food). A real bed with bedhead, side drawers & lamps. Plenty of hanging space & hangers on a rolling rack, plus a luggage shelf. Entry to en suite bathroom outside down 3 steps - part of the charm. Visit us and see for yourself!
PLEASE NOTE: NO MORE THAN 2 GUESTS - EXTRA GUESTS WILL BE REFUSED ENTRY.
Please also check our social media page - The Cabin on Elanore, and our wordpress blog. We also have a web page with wix.
It's a private and quirky little space that we're sure you'll love. Not luxurious but comfortable and homely, and at one of the cheapest rates close to Hobart. Yes, you have to go outside and down the 3 steps too the 'facilities' but you can enjoy the garden while you do it! And there is a light for night trips.
Cabin and ensuite with shower, toilet and basin, plus Tastic type heater lamp & fan. We have expanded the area (in August 2016) by enclosing the Annexe, an area that was under the roof but open, and made it accessible via 2 steps as a kitchenette with sink and drainer, hot and cold running water, 2 hotplates, microwave and fridge, plus pots, pans etc
PLEASE NOTE: We DO NOT provide food. Tea, coffee and long life milk, plus condiments such as salt & pepper are in the cabin, but it is SELF-CATERING. The closest supermarkets are a 25-40 minute walk. There are closer local small grocery/take away food places, but they have limited stock and are far more expensive.
You are welcome use your computer via our WiFi. Please note the WiFi is NOT reliable, it is due to the fact that the Cabin is, effectively, in a hollow, and that Tasmanian internet is not the same standard as the mainland. You may or may not be able to get a connection. No large down/up loads, please, as it is not unlimited.
Table and chairs for relaxing in the nice spots in our garden to use your computer or tablet devices.
The original folding futon bed has been replaced by a real bed (September 2016), with Sri Lankan teak bedhead and base, with a proper mattress, plus two side tables. Much more comfortable for our stay without the previous incarnation's tendency to sag in the middle!
You can access all of the garden and the Cabin, and we have one off street parking space for guest use.
NOTE: the path down slopes and has quite a few steps, and the upper ones are different widths. NOT suitable for anyone with difficulty walking. (I myself use a walking stick on occasions and have no trouble, but if you have doubts please check the photo of the path.) You will need a torch or light after dark, although we do have outside sensor lights which cover the garden.
There are 2 torches at the cabin, one by the door to illuminate the keypad on the key lock box, and one hanging just inside the door which is handy to take with you if you plan to return after dark.
Interaction with guests
If we are home we are happy to see you and help with advice about the Cabin, places to go in Hobart and things to see.
If there are any problems with the Cabin, we want to know. PLEASE do not suffer in silence then tell us about it in your review. We'd like at least the opportunity to fix any problems while you are here. Just come up and ring the fancy brass bell!
Other things to note
If you are staying for a week or longer, please arrange a day with us when we can come in and change the linen and towels for you.
We do not have an electric blanket on the bed as experience has shown they are not turned off during the day, and fire safety recommendations are thus not met. There are 2 doonas (duvets) and an extra blanket.
No smoking in the cabin, please. (It's fine to have a smoke out in the open parts of the garden - all butts in the tin provided please.)
No loud partying, please - we do want to keep the neighbours onside.
Lost door keys will incur a replacement fee of $AUD15.00
We are 'new' Taswegians, having moved here is September 2013. Both journalists by trade, and I am a photographer as well (hoping to catch the mysterious and beautiful aurora one day soon!) and we love the lifestyle and location.
One of the factors which influenced us to buy our cottage at Glenorchy was the cabin in the garden. Originally I planned to offer it to photographer friends as a cheap accommodation alternative for their visits, but someone mentioned aribnb and here we are.
Our offering is strictly a budget offering, but private and comfortable. There are NO extra fees, we do not charge service or cleaning fees, nor do we seasonally raise our rates.
We have a love of good food, wine and lifestyle, and can direct you to provedores, wineries and interesting places like the State Theatre, MONA and Tasmania's great attractions. We've included many of these in our Guidebook and we hope you find it useful. And Tasmania's food festivals, such as Taste, Taste of Huon and many others are a gastronome's delight.
Tasmania is also photographer's paradise, and combining your trip with one of Tassie's many festivals, such as the bi-yearly Wooden Boat festivals, can give you a wealth of opportunities for that special shot. And no where else in Australia has such good viewing for the Aurora Australis, the magical southern lights. You might be lucky during YOUR stay with us!
We love meeting new people from all over the world and look forward to making new friends among our guests.
Cheers, Odille & Warwick
(Note our 5 cats and 3 rabbits do not go in the cabin and are all inside pets, so allergy sufferers should be OK.)
