The Stable is a private self catering holiday annex at Mullion Barn, a 17th Century Grade II listed barn, converted in 2008. It's quietly positioned in the picturesque village of Hessett, located on the edge of a beautiful tourist town, Bury St Edmunds and the lovely Suffolk countryside.

A one-bedroom, single storey secluded property ideal for a quiet getaway for couples or small families. As part of a beautifully converted barn, The Stable has a wealth of original and historical features.

The space
The Stable is part of Mullion Barn, a large 17th century barn converted in 2008. Said to be the best preserved in the country and considered of national significance dating around 1610, this sympathetically, recently converted barn offers a wealth of original features, furnished in a traditional and yet comfy style.

Leading from the living room of The Stable, double French doors open out onto the garden with table and chairs to enable you to dine al fresco. With plenty in the surrounding area to see and do during your stay, this is ideal for that perfect getaway.

Location

Bury Saint Edmunds, United Kingdom

The Stable is located in the quiet and picturesque village of Hessett in Suffolk, on the edge of the town of Bury St Edmunds. Ideal for a getaway where you can do as little or as much as you wish.

Beautiful countryside walks along the Suffolk country lanes and footpaths can be taken straight from the barn door. Local pubs are within walking distance (around 20 to 30 minutes on foot, in our neighbouring village Beyton), and the market town of Bury St Edmunds is just 5 miles away by car. Our local pub (2 minute walk!) The Five Bells in Hessett is currently undergoing a beautiful restoration and we are hoping it will be ready and open towards the end of the summer in 2020. Luckily we have a number of wonderful pubs within a few miles of Hessett, see the Guest Folder at the property for lots more info.

Bury St Edmunds is a historical and very picturesque town very popular with visitors young and old. Full of cafes and restaurants and the shopping is perfect as the town centre is big enough to have all the major retailers and boutique independent shops too. We must not forget about the amazing Wednesday and Saturday street market either, said to be one the best in East Anglia. A must see is the spectacular Cathedral, historical Abbey Ruins and award winning Abbey Gardens, all next to each other in the centre of town.

Outside of Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk contains some wonderful historic sites and buildings including the dramatic castle at Framlingham and the famous ship burial of an Anglo Saxon warrior king and his most treasured possessions at Sutton Hoo. Visit Aldeburgh, just 40 miles away, and experience the stunning historic coastline, or Southwold, famous for its exclusive, multi coloured beach huts and fabulous pier. Lavenham and Long Melford, the home of medieval wool towns with their crooked, timbered cottages, gorgeous tea rooms, posh restaurants and ancient churches are also a must for visitors.

Nearby Newmarket is the heart of horseracing and boasts two race courses, the National Horse Racing Museum and National Stud. Most early mornings you can see race horses exercising on the gallops at Newmarket.

I am the owner and manager of The Stable at Mullion Barn, a private self catering peaceful holiday let on the edge of the beautiful Suffolk countryside. Five things I can't live without...? The coutryside, my local community, travelling, yoga and cocktails, of course! The Stable is an established holiday rental that we took over in 2018, and so far we have loved hosting all our guests! My husband and I love to communicate with guests and love to share our knowledge of the local area if asked, but we will equally leave you completely alone for a totally peaceful and private stay if thats what you need :-)
