This place is even more magical than it appears in the lovely photos. I'm still grinning thinking about our trip and the beautiful little cliffside perch. Waking up nestled in the pines and looking out over the Atlantic was the exactly the peace and calm we needed. I proposed to my girlfriend at nearby Jasper Beach and we left with pockets full of rocks and hearts full of love.

Amazing getaway! Loved the house, views were spectacular to say the least. Trails around the property were lots of fun to explore and some challenging areas to hike too! Worth it to stay in the area for a week or so and explore. Could not believe the wall of fog in the early mornings, and having wild Maine blueberries on the property to snack on while dandering about was a tasty treat. The raw beauty of the area is overpowering, and engulfs your senses. You will happily surrender to at least one day of lounging and relaxing on one of the sun drenched decks, or snoozing in the hammock that overlooks the bay. There is a library inside with some terrific selections, and a record player. Some good ones in there..but bring a few of your own if you want to hear your favorite tunes echoing off the cliffs and off into the night over the moonlit sea. Being so close to a thriving fishery, the wicked cheap seafood in the area makes for a delicious dinner party with friends and family, or if you're having yourself a lobster feast for one. I could go on about how wonderful this place is, but I would like to come back at some point in the next decade before it is completely booked. Enjoy your stay! Slainte!

The Prowhouse is a spectacular experience. The location and views are breathtaking and the home is very nice. We loved awakening to gorgeous sunrises which could be viewed without getting out of bed! We had a fantastic time both at the home and on the property, and in the area generally. We came to rest and relax and be with beauty and were very satisfied with our stay.

Since my first inquiry about Prowhouse, Rich was in constant contact with me, reassuring my dates, costs and sending me helpful information. Superb communication, wonderful host. I arrived later than expected, and he even called to check-in with me to make sure things were okay - how thoughtful! As for the Prowhouse, it is gorgeous; modern with a twist of rustic charm, a perfect cross between a boutique hotel and a home. Extremely comfortable bed in which I arose to the sunrise every morning, large kitchen with all the amenities (even condiments in the fridge), spacious bathroom with towels + toiletries, and a living room with a breathtaking view of the ocean and pines. The setting around the Prowhouse was serene, beautiful and magical. I could hear the waves of the ocean all day, and they soothed me into a deep sleep at night. The hiking trails around the property are well kempt, clear and moderately easy with makeshift handrails and ropes for the steeper parts - so considerate! Off the property, I enjoyed Jasper Beach - I've never seen so many different types of rocks. It was meditative to just sit on the beach and finger through each stone, looking at their different patterns and feeling their smooth textures. I went every day! My favorite place to watch the sunset was on Ingalls Island Bar Road toward Starboard Island. My favorite trip in town was to see Bill Coperthwaite's yurts. The hike was tranquil and beautiful; however, I must note, that if you are visiting during Maine's hunting season (as early as August into December) wear "blaze orange" if you are going into the woods to hike. This needs to be taken very seriously as locals are very serious about hunting. Plus! You'll fit right in. Prowhouse gave me the opportunity to take a week in solitude, reflect, write and enjoy what I love most - nature. I highly recommend this abode to anyone looking for a retreat in a stunning setting within the state of Maine. Thank you Rich + Julie!

What can I say about this place that hasn't already been stated by all these other rave reviews? This place is awesome. It's everything that everyone before me says it is. I'm generally very cheap when it comes to hotels and Airbnb places, but after seeing what this place had to offer, I felt I had to spend a little more to try it. I'm glad I did. The land that this house sits on is an amazing piece of land and the house is the perfect style of house for it. I could have stayed there for good. I was so comfortable there and I hope I get to stay there again. Rich was an excellent communicator even though I booked the place very last minute and he made it a breeze to check in. The place was immaculately clean and decorated very nicely. Please listen to their warnings regarding safety. DO NOT HIKE at night without a light or without getting to know the area very well during the day. It is very easy to hurt yourself while hiking if you don't heed their warnings. They went out of their way to make it as safe as possible. The rest is up to you. I enjoyed their trails and the special locations they marked on the trails. Even in bad weather, which I had for over a day of my stay, this was a great place to stay. I didn't mind the wind and storm outside. After the storm came a very thick fog and it was still so beautiful. Guys, if you have a special gal that you want to take to a romantic location, this place is perfect. Waking up to sunrises and falling asleep to lighthouses. I just hope they keep this place reasonably affordable so that I may come back.

We are designers and educators who love to travel the world. While we spend most of our time in the city we retreat to the Prowhouse to reconnect with nature. The Prowhouse, named for its resemblance to the prow of a ship, was conceived and built by Rich's father, Phil Rose, a Machiasport poet and sea captain. When Phil passed away in 2011, Rich, a graphic designer, and Julie, a lighting designer, renovated the home, picking up where Phil left off. The Prowhouse's interior is inspired by midcentury modern design and all things nautical.
