Brilliant private room in Faro, walking distance to the old town and Marina. Lilia is a great host, the restaurant recommendation was brilliant, wonderful Portuguese tapas. The house is very clean and well equipoise and the roof terrace is delightful. Thank you Lilia.

We had an extra special welcome from Lilia- we arrived on my birthday and there was a small birthday cake with candle waiting in our room when we arrived. Lilia emailed us useful information about buses from the airport, provided a map when we arrived showing places to see & good places to eat ( two of which we visited & definitely lived up to recommendation), and answered questions during our stay. I enjoyed reading the book by a Portuguese poet which was in our room, and there were lots of guidebooks, timetables etc available in the lounge area. It was great to be able to eat breakfast up in the roof garden. Lilia provided breakfast including fresh local fruit, and cakes as well as cereals, fresh bread etc. I was struck by how spotlessly clean everything was. Also very quiet even though we were in the city and only a short walk from the centre of Faro- very easy to explore the old city area. We would definitely go again and recommend to friends.

Lilia was a great host. Even before we arrived she was very open and informative in her emails. In person, she was very friendly and well-prepared, showing us where to find breakfast ingredients and kitchen utensils and giving us a map of Faro, with Casa AOrta marked on it. The room and house were light, airy, stylish and thoughtfully set up for guests. We were delighted that the room looked exactly as in the photo - down to the rolled towels and chocolate on the beds. The spacious roof terrace was an unexpected bonus. She kept iced tea in the fridge for visitors, along with jams and fruit for breakfast - and delicious cakes from her father's bakery. With 6 people in the house the night we were there, she seemed to make everyone feel at home, with space and privacy enough for us all. Her recommendations for restaurants, bars, walks and supermarkets were spot on. I'd very happily stay there again.

Lilia in Casa Aorta was simply the best host you can ever hope for. She picked us up from the train station and welcomed us into her house. She gave us some info about Faro. The kitchen is stocked with loads of amazing portuguese food for you to try and sample, there is a cute patio with tables for meals and a great roof terrace for a bit of sunbathing. The house is really well located and a 10min walk from the city centre. Faro itself was much nicer than my guide led me to beleive and we enjoyed great food (Lilia will be able to recommend a few local restaurants) and lovely walks and beaches. The room we stayed in was a twin room - it was really pretty and well decorated (like the rest of the house). The house itself has just been redecorated so everything is new and beautiful. I would completely recommend staying there as we really had the best stay there!

Casa AOrta User Profile

Casa aOrta has been renovated to be a soulful Algarvian house. It has those typical features:
- terrace on top (used to dry figs and other fruits in the past);
- wooden floor in the bedrooms (4 for rent and 1 for me) and living room;
- old tile floor in the corridor;
- high ceilings as a temperature control mechanism;
- a service door to help maintain the house clean for the guests (that would go in through the main door);

And most of the furniture was renovated or transformed by myself.

I used to grow my own garden, because I like tasty veggies and fruits... It really makes a difference to me. Now I go to the sunday farmers' market and still bring fruits from my grandparents' organic garden, that my guests can eat too.

I am enthusiastic about getting to know the way things were back in the days and how they came to be as they are now. And I absolutely love design and art object made out of reclaimed objects!

I love to travel - I even believe I'm well traveled even though, now a days, most people my age are. When I travel I like to know how people really live there (habits, hang-out places, cuisine, expressions and so forth), so when someone comes to visit I like to give them all the highlights too. I'm pleased to help with any info you may need.
