Great location
100% of recent guests gave the location a 5-star rating.
Fall asleep to the sound of waves on shingle in this beautiful, hand-crafted oak shepherd’s hut. In winter the Hut is cosy with double glazing, a wood burner plus radiator. In summer relax on the deck to enjoy the stunning vista of Lyme Bay from Portland to Golden Cap and beyond or use the gas BBQ. Nestling in our garden, you can be on Chesil Beach and the South West Coast Path in 30 seconds via a private path. Watch magnificent sunsets over the bay and enjoy stargazing in our dark skies.

The space
The hut was built in September 2017 by Blackdown Shepherd Huts of Ilminster, Somerset. The interior and exterior wood cladding is French oak with sheep’s wool insulation.

Inside, the main area contains a dining table and bench seats, woodburner and kitchenette with sink, combination oven and fridge. There is a cupboard with hanging rail for clothes and a shower room and WC. The dining table folds down and a full size double bed pulls out. There is a USB socket by the bed, electric lighting, a gas boiler for hot water and alternative heating by oil-filled radiator.

Outside there is a decking area with a dining table and chairs plus sun loungers for those warm days and a gas BBQ. Guests have sole use of the back garden. Parking is on a paved drive with a path to the hut. It is not suitable for anyone with mobility problems as there are 2 steps to the decking and 4 more up to the hut itself.

Guest access
There is a selection of guide books, maps, local walks and novels in the hut. There is an iPhone dock with speakers but no TV, no mobile signal and limited WiFi. The Hut is on Facebook (The Seaside Shepherd’s Hut) and Instagram for up to date local events, photos and places to visit.

Guests can reach the Chesil Beach by a short private path through the garden.

Other things to note
Chesil Beach is a shelving shingle beach with strong currents. Swimming is possible when the sea is calm but guests should be aware that they will be out of their depth in just a few steps - please use caution. When the sea is rough please stay a safe distance away from the water’s edge. When visiting other beaches please check tide times if walking and adhere to safety notices.

I’m a Londoner but my grandmother bought our beach house here in West Bexington in 1934. I’ve been coming here all my life and chose to move here permanently in 2007. Over the years I’ve been an architect and a librarian in schools and prisons but now I’m ‘pre-tired’ - I’m not yet retired but I do a couple of part-time jobs to pay the bills. I work at the PO and shop in Abbotsbury and Waitrose in Bridport. I rebuilt my little house a few years ago and feel blessed to live In Sea Swallow in this lovely part of Dorset. I keep bees, go walking and dancing, practise tai chi and enjoy just being here by the sea. Running the Seaside Shepherd Hut as an AirBnB venue is my newest venture. I’m delighted to share this beautiful spot with others who will appreciate it.
