Bellevue Cottage is a relaxed, country-style cottage situated in Somerset West. It is conveniently close to shops, the beach, Helderberg nature reserve and the airport. It feels like being out in the country, and yet you are close to where it's all happening! We speak English, Afrikaans, French and isiXhosa and look forward to welcoming people of all cultures and nationalities.

The space
We intend for the space to be a 'home away from home'. The kitchen is equipped with the necessary tools, and you can use the outdoor 'braai' and pizza oven, relax on the lawn in front of the cottage, and enjoy meals on the terrace. It's a great place to watch the sunset and you even have a view of the sea. Bellevue is home to 3 friendly German Shepherd dogs, 2 horses, a number of busy squirrels and a large flock of Guinea fowls and various other birds.
Please note that there are stairs, so the bedrooms are not accessible to wheelchair users. Both bathrooms have showers, not baths. The property is fenced and there is space for secure off-road parking. You are welcome to share the use of our swimming pool in the summer.

Guest access
You have access to an outside braai area and pizza oven. A wood fire in the lounge will keep you warm in the winter. If you prefer the convenience of gas, a gas heater is also available. We have a family swimming pool that is available in the summer months for guests to enjoy.

Other things to note
Be aware that in South Africa we are careful with water use. 2018 was a year of water shortages in the Western Cape. We have had a wonderful winter in 2020 with lots of rain, so our dams are in a much better state, but we would still encourage our guests to use water sparingly. In addition to municipal water, we have a borehole, which provides water for the pool, garden and animals. This is a great help!
Our country has some electricity supply challenges. It is possible that during your stay there may be load-shedding. This would mean a period of time (around 2.5 hrs) without electricity. It is annoying, but not a permanent situation. We can go for months with not problems, and then suddenly find ourselves having to be aware of when we will be without power. That is the bad news. The good news is that we fall under the City of Cape Town, which has extra capacity due to a well run hydro-electric station. So we have fewer power cuts than the rest of the country! Further good news is that for the past year we've not had any power cuts!

Where you’ll be

Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa

Heldervue is a pleasant suburb. We border on a vineyard where many of the Heldervue residents and our guests take regular walks. Waterstone Shopping centre is less than 2km away and the busy Somerset Mall is 4km away. Strand beach is less than 5 km away and we can see the sea from the cottage. We are situated on the wine route with all its many beautiful wine farms. Helderberg Nature Reserve, with its beautiful fynbos and access to mountain walks is just a few kms away. We are also close to the beautiful coastal Clarence Drive to Hermanus and surrounds.
Cape Town International Airport is only 28 km away, and the heart of Cape Town: the Waterfront, Table Mountain, and city centre is only a 40km drive. So we are very conveniently situated.
