Description

The space

McLeod's cottage is part of the beautiful Delnabo Estate, situated in the heart of the Cairngorms National Park. The cottage has a well equipped kitchen for self-catering, a cosy sitting room with Freesat TV and DVD player, and a dining room with great views of the Ailnack river and gorge. One downstairs bedroom can be furnished according to your requirements with a double bed or twin beds. A single room is also located downstairs, with the remainder of the sleeping accommodation, including a double and twin bedded room upstairs.

The neighbourhood

The cottage is part of Delnabo Estate, situated in the heart of the Cairngorms National Park and close to Tomintoul, the highest village in the Highlands. Both the river Avon (a tributary of the Spey) and river Ailnack run through the Estate. The Ailnack gorge is Scotland's largest glacial melt water channel and is truly spectacular. The woodland and heather moorland is home to lots of wildlife, including red squirrels, deer, grouse and pheasants. There are also resident highland cattle on the Estate.

Tomintoul supports quaint shops, pubs, a post office, a museum, restaurant, Malt whisky shop and art studio. For guests who are interested in outdoor pursuits there is much to offer nearby including well marked walking trails, fishing, mountain biking, horse riding, skiing (at the Cairngorms or Lecht ski centres) and golf. The Estate is also well situated for other attractions such as Balmoral, the Queen's castle, and Loch Ness.

We all had a lovely lovely time. Really beautiful, grounds were lovely with a nice lawn and river at the end. Kids spent hours skimming stones. Short walk onto the moors - great views. Close to Glenlivet estate where you can walk, mountain bike and visit the whiskey distillery! Katie was really helpful and had great suggestions for places to go. Definitely worth checking out Cairn Gorm walk and Loch Morlich which has a beach. Would love to come back.

McLeod's Cottage is just about the most magical and relaxing place I have ever stayed. The location and outlook from the cottage are spectacular, with a manicured lawn that rolls down to meet a babbling river and forest on the other side. While you could happily stay put and just soak it all up, it's only a short drive to the local town and within an easy drive of distilleries and sights. Or, you can walk/hike up from the house into the hills/moors above, which was fabulous. Katie was just lovely and made sure we had everything we needed. I cannot recommend this place more highly, especially if you want get away from it all!

My family and I had a lovely stay in this cottage over the Easter holidays. Katie really looked after us (even sorting out some much needed non-feather pillows at the last minute!) The cottage is in an absolutely stunning location and our daughters spent hours exploring the river at the bottom of the garden. The cottage is very traditionally decorated but cosy. There is so much to do in the area, we had a fantastic time.

Wonderful stay at a cosy cottage with 6 people. They even went out of their way to provide a real Christmas tree for our stay! Hosts were also great with information about the area, and especially with practical help - I.e. escorting our 2 wheel drives out of the snowy valley! 100% recommended especially for nature-lovers. We saw all sorts of wildlife in the surrounding area including golden eagles!
