Charming, spacious house on two levels in a vibrant Languedoc village with all amenities--bakery, cafe/bar, pharmacy/chemist, grocery shop, library, and more. Our former winemaker's house is cozy and tranquil, with modern comforts including a brand-new second bathroom and two new flat screen TVs. Unwind on the large private roof terrace with dinner under the stars. Location is perfect for day trips to Carcassonne, the Mediterranean beaches, Montpellier, Pézenas, Béziers, and the Canal du Midi.

The space
The kitchen and living room are located on the ground floor, along with a dining area with a large locally made wooden dining table. A bathroom and toilet room are located there as well. The living room is a comfy place to relax, read, or watch English-language cable TV and features a brand-new convertible sofa bed.

Climbing the stairs to the next floor, you will find two bedrooms that sleep two people each, plus a huge second living room with a new convertible sofa bed, which also sleeps two comfortably. A sliding glass door leads from this living room onto the spacious roof terrace, which is completely private and surrounded by trees. As you unwind from a day of sightseeing, fire up the new grill to create delicious dinners enjoyed al fresco, accompanied by local wines!

A newly added second bathroom on this floor enhances the modern comfort of this home. A skylight makes the upstairs living room very bright and airy, a pleasant place to while away the hours reading, playing games, or watching French television with the cable TV system.

Guest access
There is a (public) parking spot right outside the front door, which will accommodate a compact-sized vehicle. It does not belong to the house but is usually available. Otherwise, parking is available at the wine cooperative just a minute's walk away or at the town square.

We recommend keeping the door that separates the ground floor living space from the rear storage areas closed, as the storage rooms are unfinished. However, you are free to access this space if needed.

Other things to note
Please note that the stairs are a bit steep--but are equipped with two banisters and wall-mounted rails--and may therefore not be ideal for the elderly or those with mobility issues. Very small children should be supervised when using the stairs.

Cruzy, Occitanie, France

Our village has the perfect balance of being lively yet tranquil, with twice weekly markets in the square and a wine cooperative. Your morning stroll to pick up piping-hot croissants at the village bakery is a one-minute walk, as is a jaunt to the local cafe and bar.

The village is wonderfully situated for all types of activities: strolling along the Canal du Midi, visiting the walled city of Carcassonne, enjoying the water and beaches of the Mediterranean, and visiting any number of towns and villages in the Languedoc and beyond.

We are two American librarians from Los Angeles, California, who love all things French and had a dream of owning a place in the South of France--which became a reality when we purchased our historic winemaker’s home in Cruzy. Wendy lived in France for a year in her twenties and speaks fluent French. Kurt is also multilingual and is now making an effort to learn the French language. What we love about the Languedoc is the relaxed atmosphere of the South of France, the wonderful cuisine, and its proximity to Spain and Italy. People are friendly and there is so much to do! Being only about 30 minutes from the Mediterranean is a real benefit of the location as well, and the Canal du Midi is minutes away. We love the calm of village life, where you can get to know your neighbors and patronize local shops and restaurants. There are fold-up bikes on the property, which allows you to explore a little further afield than is possible on foot. Ride along the Canal du Midi, down country lanes, and check out all the different neighboring villages. You'll always discover something new! We chose Cruzy because it has just the right feel—it’s calm, scenic, and perfectly located for all types of activities and tourism; at the same time, it provides all the amenities you need for a comfortable daily life. At some point we will become more permanent, longer-term residents, but at this time in our lives, we visit a few times a year and let others enjoy our property the rest of the time.
