Nestled under the gum trees by the creek, cosy, self-contained two-bedroom Glen Morris, 6km north of Clare, offers peace and seclusion.

Situated on 35 ha of rolling hills, the heritage-style cottage enjoys stunning, unimpeded views of hundred-year-old gum trees and is located far from the other two cottages at Wuthering Heights.

Enjoy meals in the dedicated breakfast parlour, the back slated courtyard with gas BBQ or around the wood fire BBQ by the verandah.

The space
During winter you can curl up in front of the pot belly stove and read a book, or toast marshmallows over an open fire, outdoors.

In all weathers the beautiful property has something to offer. Enjoy meandering walks through the trees or let the kids run free, and the dogs off-leash to romp on the grassy slope.

The charming, character master bedroom with its white-washed walls and Edwardian dressing table has a queen-sized bed with Posturpedic mattress. The view through the window overlooks a swathe of gum trees.

The second bedroom has two singles and overlooks the front verandah. (Some couples like to put their children to bed before retiring around an open fire a few metres down the slope beneath the gum trees. Childish cries can easily be heard while parents can enjoy some outdoors respite.)

No other building or road blocks the country views in all directions.

COSY COMFORT

Linen and electric blankets are provided while a pot belly stove and reverse cycle air-conditioning keep the slate-floored sitting room comfortable, year-round.

Foxtel provides inside entertainment while outdoors, guests can take advantage of abundant firewood for a bonfire on the slope between the cottage and the creek bed. (Additional firewood can be provided at $20 a bag if ordered before 12 noon.) There's also a gas BBQ.

Dogs love it and birdlife is plentiful, including a variety of parrots. Kangaroos are seen most days.

Restaurants, wineries and a first class golf course are easily accessible. Clare township offers good shopping facilities while the Clare Valley is noted for its fine wines, excellent wineries, scenic drives and the beauty of its trees and rolling hills. The area has an unspoilt rural charm about it.

For the cyclist or walking trail enthusiast, the popular Riesling Trail follows the old train line between Clare and Auburn (22km). The trail passes close to wineries, restaurants and scenic spots. It is sign posted and the full trail does not have to be negotiated.

Where you’ll be

Stanley Flat, South Australia, Australia

Glen Morris is one of three separately-located cottages at Wuthering Heights.
It's 6km north of Clare, 2 hours' drive north of Adelaide airport and close to many wonderful wineries and restaurants.
It's also extremely quiet, being 3km from the Main North road that heads north to the Flinders Ranges.
The Golf Course and Clare Racecourse are only 5 minutes' drive away. It's also a popular location for cyclists who want to stay somewhere relatively near the Riesling Trail.
Kangaroos are common visitors to the 35-ha property, there are 42 bird varieties and also two resident alpacas.

I was a teenager when, together with my sisters, I helped make mud bricks to build the three cottages on our beautiful property. Some of my favourite times are the meandering walks taken amongst the 25,000 trees we planted, in addition to the many acres of virgin bushland. The dogs love it, too!
