Nurture yourself in nature at this one bedroom suite on private three acres. With a large private deck, under the grand old oaks. You'll feel a sense of peacefulness just stepping foot on this sacred property. Leave your cares behind, recharge.

The space

The property is very serene. You are away from the outside world. You can hike to the Los Padres Dam, Carmel River. Feel free to walk about the property. 1 Queen bed in bedroom, sofa/sleeper in living area.

Guest access

You can walk around the property, enjoy the peacefulness of the ducks swimming in the pond, or just sit on the back deck and take in mother nature. There is a large lawn area with a hammock behind the main house (where I live) that children, as well as adults can relax.

Interaction with guests

I'm usually home working on my music, tending to the animals, or in the garden. You have a private space here, and the back deck is also very private.

Other things to note

I have 1 dog, that loves children, and loves to greet guests, and play fetch, 1 cat,,,doves, chickens and ducks. We are 45 minutes from the beach. We are 20 minutes to restaurants and shops which are located in the Carmel Valley Village. The road to get here is winding, take your time, and take it easy.

Rustic and charming, great experience if you're looking to get away from the hustle and bustle. The facilities were basic but adequate. The highlight was definitely the rear deck overlooking the creek and the friendly dog Ruby who's an absolute angel! The host was friendly and welcoming. Thank you for having us :) x

The Bunkhouse is in a fantastic secluded location. The approach to the area through the hills was spectacular. The property has a great sun trap on the rear deck. The local bird life is all around. Idyllic. Rose was a great host friendly and welcoming but not intrusive. If staying on Mondays don't miss out on the General Store for dinner. Reservations required.

This one really wasn't for us. We've spent a month in California and hired 5 cabins. This one was the most expensive and the least equipped. Maybe it was the area being expensive, or airbnb's cut (16.4%). It could really do with a proper kitchen to bring it up to the standard of others. Sorry to be so negative but it really stood apart from our other experiences.

Response from Rose:
A proper kitchen? What you see and read on the site is exactly how the place appears. Nothing more, nothing less. This is my first negative review, and I'll assume the place was not a fit for you.

It is a perfect getaway. Rose is super nice and accommodating. Her dog, Ruby, kept wanting to play fetch with us. So cute!!!

Beautiful, charming, rustic property. We booked 2 nights for one last summer weekend trip before our kids - 13 year old son and 9 year old daughter- headed back to school. Couldn't have asked for a better experience! The drive through the mountains was spectacularly beautiful. The darling pup Ruby was waiting for us at the gate with her famed frisbee and my kids simply loved her! Rose's welcome was so very warm- she offered us fresh eggs and my daughter was thrilled to be able to collect them herself from the chicken coop. Rose lent her a lovely little basket which belonged to her grandma just so that the eggs could be carried safely. She then proceeded to give us a tour- my daughter loved feeding the doves and the kids enjoyed playing on the wooden swing and hammock, both of which hung by sturdy ropes off of humungous trees on the property. Rose walked me through her amazing vegetable garden and picked fresh bell peppers, carrots, chives, corn, beans, etc. for us to enjoy. (My husband and daughter whipped up delicious scrambled eggs and veggies with those for breakfast in the outdoor kitchen.) We went into town a couple of times for dinner and lunch at Cafe Rustica and Corkscrew Cafe (absolutely loved the latter) and also visited the Cowgirl Winery on Rose's recommendation. We contemplated going to Carmel or the Beach but my daughter insisted on returning to play with Ruby and has been missing her ever since we left! :) Our last night there, which happened to be the one before the eclipse, we saw the most incredible sky filled with stars and could even make out the rings of the milky way. It was heartwarming to see the kids enjoying the simple pleasures of being outdoors and connecting with nature. All in all, we had a very relaxing, lovely family weekend away from the crazy hustle and bustle of the Bay Area. Strongly recommend this little slice of heaven with its amazing hosts. Thank you, Rose and Jeff!

Just what me and my 5 yr old daughter needed! What started as a hunt for a place to stay during a Monterey bay aquarium visit turned into a relaxing trip to Carmel Valley at Roses Bunkhouse! We rented the smaller of the two cottages and that was just fine for us (a pull-out couch is in the living room for another guest or two if needed). There is a kitchenette inside and a gas grill (plus the sink and prep counter) took cook your hot meals outside. This was perfect for us and added to the 'out-in-the-country' feel! We opted to stay put during our stay and explored the property, played with Ruby the sweetest dog ever!, visited the animals, relaxed in the hammock, walked in the garden, went to the local swimming hole then played cards and read books at night. In the morning I sat on the deck listening to the wildlife sipping my coffee. We really could've stayed MUCH longer! Not to mention Rose and her husband are lovely, lovely hosts! We even got to meet some locals! If you're looking for a rustic, country, beautiful and peaceful place to stay that's 30 min away from Carmel Beach, Monterey Bay aquarium, wineries etc... this is the perfect place! We can't wait to go back.

I'm a country girl, singer songwriter living in the mountains above Carmel Valley, in a small area called Cachagua.
I live on three acres of paradise, where the fog rarely lingers, and the wind, if any, only a slight breeze. Up here away from the "who's who, and what's what", I can totally unwind and recharge. In order to create, I like to be "away from it all". I wrote all the songs for my first album up here by the creek. My animals keep me smiling, and I'm so happy to share this property with others. I'm just a simple girl in a grown up world with a head full of dreams. I continue my dream here at Star Route. I'm constantly working on the property, because there is always something to do on the land. with the animals, or in the garden.
