The space

Victorian elegance at its finest with this turn of the century charmer. Steps to free ferry into Manhattan and next door to Historic Snug Harbor Cultural Center with Botanical gardens, Chinese Scholar's Garden, Tuscan Garden, Visual and Performing Arts Center and Children's Museum makes this mansion one of the most sought after places to be in NYC. Soon-to-be home of the largest Ferris wheel in the world, the neighborhood is definitely a place to check out. Formerly a well-known artist's castle, the home boasts 12' ceilings, 10' windows (all new), 6 fireplaces, 8 bedrooms, with formal living room and dining room, library, and eat -in cooks kitchen. Full third floor artist (writer, architects) dream studio/work space with incredible light @ 931 square feet. Have tea or hot chocolate on the Wrap around porch, only one block from the water with infamous Blue restaurant, convenient stores, cozy cafes, church, fruit/vegetable market within 1 blocks from the apartment. Another beautiful park (Clove Lakes Park) with a restaurant on the lake, paddleboats, bicycle path, track, baseball diamond, ice-skating rink, etc. and Silver Lake Golf Course are within close proximity. The St. George Theatre and Farmer's Marker are all a short distance, as well. 3rd floor views of the NYC harbour.

**Please kindly note: this is not a hotel. This is our home. Therefore, we ask anyone who is fond of critiquing every little thing and offering their "helpful" suggestions to consider staying elsewhere. We do our best to make this an exceptionally clean and safe place to stay, as well as provide a historic and charming place to feel at home in New York. It's beautiful here. We are not here for you to pick apart our home so we ask that you have the basic common respect and courtesy not to do so. We wouldn't come to your home and do that so we ask the same in return. Thanks!

Nice place to stay. Water pressure for shower upstairs is low, but is the case in most older houses.

Good place to stay for the value. Accommodations are very basic but worth it for the money you pay. Close to the ferry so easy access to Manhatten park for $8.00 catch the free ferry into Manhatten. Then the subway is right there. I would stay there again

Overall the house was just what you need for an authentic stay on the island. Spacious house with the essentials you would find at your oun home. The wrap around porch was excellent to sit out and enjoy some of the mostly quiet sounds of the city. Some minor snafus with checking in and the towels that were provided, but Melissa was more than accommodating and responded immediately answering our concerns. We even added on an extra night to stay which was great and effortless! Close public transit made you feel less like a tourist and more like a local and nothing was better than coming home after a long day of exploring to the best water pressure in a older home we've ever seen! Would most defineltly book again!

Exactly what I needed. A place to sleep and shower after a long day of exploring Manhattan. The victorian era house is an experience all in itself and definitely shaped my trip into a unique one. We drove to the Staten Island Ferry parking lot which is $8 daily and spent our days in Manhattan through the free ferry and shuttle service that drops you off right at the subway. You have to keep in mind that it is an old house so you can accept the fact that it looks rustic, but it IS clean. Would definitely go back if I'm ever in NY again! Best way to beat the insane Manhattan living and parking costs if you're driving.
