The space

Layang Layang Guest House is located at Blacksmith Street, which is known today as Jalan Tukang Besi. It is only one-minute walk to Jonker Street (Jonker Walk), and is the best location during your exploration in one of the oldest heritage sites in Malaysia that is preserved till today.

The building of the guesthouse is believed to be over 100 years old. Back in the olden days, it used to be a famous opium den, and was once a brothel too! As you stay in the wooden house with history, it often feels like travelling back in time. Its original structure remains, including the large beautiful courtyard that represents the “feng shui” of the house.

Fully restored since 2013, the guesthouse offers a fusion of old world charm and modern convenience. Today, it has a total of 20 fully air-conditioned rooms and 8 shared bathrooms that are cleaned and well-maintained at all times and equipped with quality toilet amenities.

Combined with modern and heritage design, we assure our guests staying with pleasure and views of the heritage street. Carefully selected room furniture, cozy lobby, and the secret garden create a clean, soothing, and comfortable environment for your breakaway relaxation experience.

What we have to offer:

• Coffee, tea, biscuits, and alkaline water all day long (self-service)
• Free WiFi (lobby area)
• Refrigerator and basic dishware at pantry
• Towels and hairdryers upon request, subject to availability
• 8 shared bathrooms (unique laboratory design, equipped with hot / cold shower, shampoo and shower gel, clean and well-maintained at all times)
• Washing machine (surcharge apply)
• Bicycles for rent
• Strategic location, 1-minute walk to Hard Rock Cafe and Jonker Street

Quite pricey RM300 for one room, but they are very warm and friendly. Bed quality is not bad. Toilets are quite clean and we are thankful that there's hot water.

Checking in was fast and easy. Jia Min, the receptionist that day, had the booking form filled-up and ready, my only task was to pay the deposit, an additional mattress, and sign. We were also led to our room only a few minutes after we arrived, which was a relief since we all needed to use the bathroom. The bathrooms were shared but there was enough for everyone that time. We were also surprised and really pleased that our room was very clean and the mattresses were thick and of good quality. It was easy to locate and we had a good night sleep. In fact, we wanted to stay one more day just to savour the goodness of the place. Thank you, Daphne and staff for the good service. We will be back!

The location is very good and there's friendly staff. However, the rooms are extremely noisy and you can hear the guests in the next room breath. I would not recommend a stay.

The reception was really accommodating and friendly. The room is better than I expected in the photos. It's a nice and cozy, clean guest house. The neighborhood is quiet and few cafe's. Truly made my Melaka stay worth it. Thank you Daphne and Layang Layang Team

This is awesome. I dun regret choosing to stay at Layang Layang. It is 5min walk from Jonker Street and the staff is very friendly and helpful. Good for group of friends to stay if you are traveling together. Only draw back is the wall is quite thin so if you are a light sleeper, you might be woken up by traffic and human sound the next door in the morning.

Our stay at Layang-Layang was pretty good. Because we had to change plans we were only staying for one night. The guest house is very easy to find and the way instructions were correct as we were coming from Melaka Central. We had room No. 19 that includes a little table, queen size bed, A/C and window. No. 19 is facing the street. Unfortunately we didn't sleep really well because the street was quite busy till late and every time we fell asleep another one of those loud music bicycles drove past and woke us up. Be also aware that this country is a muslim country, so as many other places in Malaysia you will hear the prayer from the mosques, which were very loud from the mosque nearby (morning prayer about 05:30am). The guest house staff was one of the friendliest and most helpful I have experienced so far. They did the washing for us and helped us planning/booking how to get from Melaka to Taman Negara. A big "thank you" to Jia Min, the lovely girl at the reception. All in all it's a nice and welcoming athmosphere and the showers and toilets you're sharing with other people were always clean. I definetely recommend to stay at Layang-Layang Guest House.
