We are subletting our beloved home because we are travelling. So you get to enjoy all the lovely details that make us happy every day ... our extra soft bed with the nice sheets, the quality towels, my grandmother's beautiful dinnerware, our designer furniture, but also all the objects we love because of their stories. Please only book with us if you want this - we are not a hotel! We are looking for people who enjoy old things, and who are up for taking care of them.

The space
The apartment dates from 1824, and you can feel its long history in every detail: the terra-cotta tiles on the uneven floor, the wooden door and crooked beams, the staircase... we will tell you a little bit about the people who lived here before us if you are interested. Our little nest is tucked away in a quiet, flowery courtyard. You leave a very busy pedestrian, cobble-stone street - the best and most intense Paris nightlife is right on your doorstep! - to push the door into our patio. In the flat you hear nothing but the birds sing. We face south, so there is sunlight all day long.

The flat is on the 4th and 5th floor, so you will have to climb some stairs - but the view over the rooftops is worth it.

Please note that all of the rooms are open and connected to each other. There is a small opening between the upstairs bathroom + bedroom and the main room downstairs. It allows the air to flow nicely in summer and gives the apartment its airy, lofty feel. But there is no door you could close between different areas.

If you come with more than 2 people, we can offer you a good mattress that you can put in the living room or next to our bed upstairs. This does not make for a separate second bedroom though.

For us, this place feels luxurious in the best way possible: offering all the comfort without being pretentious. We are curious to hear what you think!

Guest access
You'll have the whole flat to yourselves. When you walk in, you find yourself in a big living room with open kitchen. Upstairs on the mezzanine, which is open towards the main space, you have the bedroom and the bathroom with the first toilet. When you are downstairs, you don't see what's going on upstairs and vice versa, but you can hear everything. The stairs connecting both spaces look like an iron bookshelf and are not suitable for young children or people with mobility problems. Please take off your shoes when you use the stairs, as the wood part easily gets grey. Outside the apartment, you have a second private toilet.

Other things to note
We kindly ask you to take off your shoes when you use the bookshelf-stairs, because the wooden part easily gets grey. Please also be sure that you feel comfortable using these stairs. They may not be suitable for young children or people with reduced mobility. (That said, my five year old son masters them without any problem).
Please be aware of the fact that the apartment is one big open space, there is no door you can close anywhere (except the outside toilet).
It does get warm up here in summer, like in any apartment without air conditioning, but it never gets really hot or stuffy because the courtyard full of plants cools down the ambiance. Also, the air circulates nicely when you leave the windows open downstairs and upstairs. You will probably be surprised by the effect - we were happy to discover it during the first summer days.
Please note that the fire place can’t be used for safety and legal reasons.
Also, please note that there is no outside space with our apartment. The courtyard is for communal use and has no table nor chairs.

Location

Paris, Île-de-France, France

The area is very central and honestly the best of the city. There is nothing you can't find there. The river Seine with its beautiful foot-path leading to the church Nôtre Dame is 10 minutes walking. Place des Voges, the central square of the historic quarter Marais, is 5 minutes walking. In the surrounding streets you will find lots of nicely curated designer boutiques and concept stores, cafes and restaurants, some of them even vegetarian (still very rare in Paris!). Some of the best food and drink of Paris is happening here, the area is known for it. It's very hip, but you also have the old Paris that hasn't died yet: you will find shoemakers, furniture makers, flower shops and restaurants that have been there for ever.

A very pittoresque market for fresh food is right by, I'm talking about marché d'aligre. On your way back form there, you should take a walk on the coulee verte, Paris' high-line: an old rail-track that has been transformed into one long flowery park, running across and in between the rooftops from Bastille until parc de Vincennes. The incredible Opera de Paris is right next-door, and some of the best Clubs and Bars are, too: Cafe de la Danse and Badaboum for example.

This is an area also very famous for it's nightlife. Don't be scared by it, because you really won't hear a thing once you are up in the apartment.
