A beautiful, recently converted, barn which was originally a Coach House. Totally newly renovated in 2018 this two bed, two bath cottage is set in an idyllic rural location with breath-taking views and direct access across the owners' field to a footpath which leads either down to the famously picturesque village of Ashford-in-the-Water or uphill to the drama of Monsal Head.
Separately available is Groom's Cottage, next door, also brand new and sleeping 2 people in equal style.

The space
More information
To make the most of the far-reaching countryside views the Coach House is in an upside-down configuration. The open plan kitchen/dining and sitting room take over the entire top floor with six large south-facing roof windows opening fully and flooding the room with light. There is a modern, newly fitted kitchen, a large farmhouse table, comfortable seating, exposed ceiling beams and a log burner for the cooler evenings. The barn is stocked with many lovely books about the various attractions in the immediate area.

Downstairs, you enter from your own private garden to the hallway which has coat and boot storage in the understairs cupboard. On this floor are the two cosy bedrooms both with windows onto the garden (one with a king size bed and the other with an adaptable twin bed/super-king bed). The beds in both rooms are modern and comfortable and the linen is all white Egyptian cotton.

Both bathrooms in the house are newly fitted, with gorgeous glazed ceramic tiles - the king-sized room has its own ensuite shower room and there is a further family bathroom with bath and shower over for the use of the second bedroom.

The Coach House has its own gravelled parking area at the bottom of the garden. The garden is mainly laid to grass with a gravel path to the front door and small planting bed along one wall which is home to a young cherry tree and a magnificent fragrant honeysuckle. The south-facing lawn enjoys the dappled shade of a huge Horse Chestnut tree in the afternoons. There is a lovely painted garden bench with views over the fields for sundowners.

Guest access
The Coach House is at the end of a private gravel driveway and has its own gravelled parking area for two cars. Full access to your cottage with it's own front door. There is a key safe for late arrivals. There are motion-sensor lanterns to light the step and gravel path for you at night.

Unfortunately, because of our large windows on the first floor, children under the age of 12 cannot be accommodated for Health and Safety reasons and guests are requested to take care at all times.

Other things to note
We are located down a gravel farm track just off the Lane leading from the village of Ashford-in-the-Water to Monsal Head. Very low sports cars may not like the cattlegrids on our drive.

We have a Border Terrier and two Labradors who will be around and about the property; they are very friendly, however, they are not able to get into your garden. There may be sheep and lambs grazing in our fields at various times throughout the year.

Although guests may need to arrive by car, you can leave it at home for the rest of the stay. By crossing our private field and slipping through the gate our guests at the Coach House can join a pretty footpath which connects them to the huge Peak District network of trails.

The Coach House is ideally located to make the very most of the area. It is a ten minute walk (2 minute drive) down to the picture postcard village of Ashford-in-the-Water. Ashford is one of a handful of the truly lovely villages in the Peak. There is a small but excellent village shop, several good pubs, a pretty church and the idyllic, much photographed bridge over the River Wye which is home to many hungry ducks! Buses leave the village regularly for the spatown of Buxton in one direction and Bakewell, Rowsley, Matlock and Derby in the other.

If you head up the hill on the footpath from The Coach House you get to the dramatic views of Monsal Head where you can join the Monsal Trail, if you wish. Otherwise there are the sleepy villages of Great and Little Longstone to explore (home to some very good pubs too!).

The Coach House is only minutes from many of the major local attractions. The market town of Bakewell (market day is Monday) is 5 minutes away by car. Chatsworth House and all it has to offer is only a ten minute drive away. The Tudor splendour of Haddon Hall is also ten minutes away. Hassop Station (for bike hire and the Monsal Trail), Eyam, Hathersage, Kinder Scout, Stanage Edge, the NT Longshore Estate, Tideswell, Buxton and many other excellent places are all within half an hour of the front door. There really is something for everybody.

If you are looking for recommendations of things to do and places to eat during your stay then please do have a look at our own little website parkfieldcottages.com There are links to many of our favourite walks and we always try to keep it up-to-date with reviews of our very favourite restaurants, pubs, cafes and delis in and around the local area.

Hello, I'm Caroline and I have lived in the Peak District for most of my life. In 2016, I moved to Parkfield along with my husband, James, and two children. Parkfield is just up the road from Ashford in the Water, a village we have always loved. James and I have spent the last two years completely renovating our house and converting the old stables and coach house into modern and comfortable holiday homes. We hope that both Groom's Cottage and the Coach House feel like proper homes from home. We live on site in the main house and, whilst hoping to give you great privacy, we are available should you have any questions during your stay. James and I look forward to welcoming you to the beautiful Peak District.
