LOOKING FOR SOMETHING DIFFERENT? THIS COULD BE IT, BUT IT'S NOT FOR THE FAINT-HEARTED. YOU NEED TO BE HARDY, CONFIDENT IN YOUR ABILITY TO LOOK AFTER YOURSELF WHEN THE TRAPPINGS OF MODERN LIFE ARE NOT SO ACCESSIBLE!
BEFORE BOOKING, PLEASE READ ALL THE INFORMATON, ESPECIALLY REGARDING USING THE WOOD-BURNER - THE ONLY HEATING AVAILABLE. THERE could BE SMOKE !
KNOW YOUR LIMITATIONS AND THINK IF THIS IS REALLY FOR YOU. OUTDOOR TYPES USED TO CAMPING OR BOTHIES WILL HAVE NO TROUBLE!

The space
PLESE READ THIS BIT...Dave saved the Signal Box from being destroyed when no longer required on the railway, and transported it 12 miles to our home. Remember - it is a SMALL wooden box in the country, not a house! We have installed a small double sofa bed and a single, a microwave, kettle and toaster and other stuff to make it pretty comfortable. Towels, crockery, cutlery, etc all provided. Bring your own sleeping bags if possibe though there are extra blankets and pillows. We can provide bedding but DO REQUEST it! This is basic, rural accommodation!
At the top of our driveway you will see a silly silver motorbike 'sculpture' - this will help you find us. Around the property are other quirky items made by Dave! We try to keep the interior of the box in keeping with its age but with modern appliances and comforts. The single bed is standard size; the sofa bed is a small double, two adults sharing do have to like each other! We are dog friendly so anyone with allergies should be aware. Also with the age of the box and a wood burning stove there is likely to be some dust, no matter how we try! This is not really suitable for very young children.

Guest access
Self-catering in the box is basic but easy. we are no longer allowed to invite you into the main house for breakfast , or even a drink, so please bring all your own supplies with you. The bathroom is a few feet away - again a converted outbuilding but with shower, basin, toilet and heating as required.

Other things to note
Please be aware that this is a very old structure, NOT insulated and with the only heating provided by a wood-burning stove. Firelighters, kindling and wood are provided but it is the responsibility of guests to light and keep the fire lit. In winter we can have quite severe frosts, for example -9 degrees C or lower in December 2019. Many guests are capable and enjoy this 'hardy' experience but some are not. This accommodation will not be suitable for everyone such as families with very young children, or anyone with no experience of real fires or very cold temperatures. Please think twice before booking!

There is no public transport in the area.

We love travelling ourselves, especially when we can stay with 'real' people in their home environments; that gives you a chance to learn about the area, the people and what life is like there. This is what we try to provide here too, in a small way returning the great hospitality we have received elsewhere over many years. We aim to provide a homely place but with its own privacy and unique accommodation.

During your stay
We used to love meeting and sharing time with our guests but sadly we are not able to do so during the Covid restriction period. We can still chat outside, weather permitting and at a safe distance... but just not the same! Motor-cyclists, cyclists, walkers, etc will find Dave to be a like-minded enthusiast. Musicians ...well, we can't do any sessions meantime!
