About this listing

In the middle of one of France's prettiest villages, a house to relax in, see the area, eat good bread and great tomatoes. The house is a typical village house, with a sun filled top floor, 3 bedrooms, 2.5 baths. Simple, elegant, easy, come!

The space

I call my house the stairway to the stars. A traditional village house except that previous owners took the second floor and the attic and made a soaring space on the top floor, 50 m2 of living and dining and kitchen, with two terraces above that with a 355° view.

I run artists' residences in my house, thus it's a great place to work and create. It's a simple house, easy to maintain, in the middle of the village so welcoming. Sleeps 6 - one double bed, one king size and two twins.

Because of all the stairs of differing heights, It is better for adults and children over the age of 8. (or babies that don't walk yet!)

Guest access

You can use everything except my favorite paintbrushes and whatever I put in the basement. If you decide to use air conditioning, there will be the electricity charge for it.

Interaction with guests

If I am around, happy to be of help finding your way.

Other things to note

There is air conditioning available for the big space on the top floor. If you choose to use it, I'll have to charge electrical consumption.

There is no television, but there is internet and wifi.

Catharine’s housekeeper Aline, a lovely lady who likes a laugh but doesn’t speak any English, met us to show us around the house, we were later than expected so was very accommodating. Venasque is spectacular and was like stepping back in time, the town was ideally situated for us to use as our base while climbing Mont Ventoux, the entire surrounding area is ideal for cycling and highly recommended. Venasque has a great community feel and everyone was extremely welcoming, we met some locals and learnt a little about the town, everyone we spoke to who lived in the town was very interesting and was very interested in learning more about us. The house is of period character, was very clean and tidy and spacious enough to accommodate our bikes and us comfortably, only thing to keep in mind is the house is on different levels so would not be suitable for someone with difficulty climbing a lot of steps.

If you ever have the chance to get to know Catharine, her house and Venasque itself — take it! The house with its roof top terrace is a dream come true. Catharine is an attentive and generous host and can give any advice on what to do around Venasque. We'd love to come back.

The house was actually bigger than we expected - we were able to invite friends and family over for short overnight stays and everyone had their privacy, etc. We were worried about the heat and the location of the rooms, but in fact with the rooms being lower in the house, the heat was not an issue, the lower floors keep cool. Venasque was a great place to stay - we've been to other parts of France in August in the past and this was different. Quaint, quiet and non-commercial - morning run to the boulangerie, épicerie, etc. It was very relaxing - and the views are breathtaking!

Amazing house, fantastic village, decent boulangerie and cute local shop. Bustling with tourists from midday on, but not crammed (and this was the end of July!) Some damn fantastic restaurants in the area, great drives and scenery. Perfect sunsets on the roof.

My friends and I spent a wonderful 5 nights in Catharine's wonderful house in the picturesque village of Venasque. We couldn't have found a better place that is beautifully situated right in the middle of the village high up on an escarpment. The views from the roof terrace were amazing. The house is split over three floors and the bedrooms were quiet and the beds comfy. The top floor hosts a large living room and open kitchen. It was lovely to spend time watching the sun set on the roof terrace and spend an evening around the fire. The house is right opposite a lovely locally owned supermarket and a boulangerie is about a 30 sec walk throw the village square. Catharine's house is as described and larger than expected. Would highly recommend it to anyone that wants a house in a stunning setting in a beautiful little village. We had the sincere pleasure of meeting Catharine who was kind and very helpful.

Catharine's place provides a mix of the ancient and the modern in picturesque Venasque. It would certainly be a good place for an artist's retreat, particularly for a group. For just two people, it felt a bit too big. When we stayed there, it seemed to be about halfway through remodeling. There was no shower curtain, lights that didn't work, furniture in pieces for restoration, toilet seats coming off, etc. The place has a ton of potential, and it will be great when it's all done. Venasque is very, very small. You can walk the whole town, every side street and alley, in about 25 minutes. The one grocery store is open just several hours a day, and then not on Mondays. If you're looking for village life, you'll find it. If you need more options, it might not be the place for you. Also keep in mind the very windy roads leading up to the village, making it maybe not the most convenient home base for day trips. Do some shopping first, stay put, and enjoy the low-key atmosphere. Catharine and her friends were very responsive. We appreciated her lovely paintings, as well.

Response from Catharine:
Hey Alex, sorry the place felt under construction! The place was just repainted, and I am taking my time putting it back together. Best, Catharine

Catherine`s house is wonderful! The stay was just great! Her art works are all over the place, the house is arranged very aestehtically and you can chose between sunny terrace (amazing sunsets) and chilly rooms downstairs. Everything was very nice and clean. The village of Venasque is awesome and the bread from the Boulangerie ist really very good, especially the Espis pain. Thank you Catherine for letting us stay at your lovely artist`s haven!

I'm American, born in NY, grew up in lovely Vermont. I'm an artist, always in movement, dashes of color across canvases, tagging in the street, dancing to buy bread. I read and I garden and I walk and I talk.
