Historic 3 bedroom home in small historic prairie town near Lake Shetek. Beautiful flower gardens, hot tub and a view of all the action in town. 3 blocks from historic End-O-Line railroad park and museum. 20 miles from the Laura Engles Wilder home.
This home was built in 1890 by one of the 2 founding brothers of Currie, Archibald Currie. He had it built for his mother. One of the photos is the oldest picture we have found of the house. It has been added on to several times. We are constantly working on improving the house and the grounds so there are always signs of construction and new gardening but that is also a big part of the charm. The home is kid friendly but not kid proof. Please supervise the children. Although the house is on the main thoroughfare of Currie, it is more quiet than anywhere in a large town or city.
This is not a 5 star hotel. It is an old house that we are fixing up but we love it and enjoy sharing it with others. The bathroom has a tub and shower. The bathroom is newly renovated with ceramic tile tub surround, new flooring and many new fixtures.
The main floor bedroom has a comfortable real queen size bed. The rest of the beds in the house are queen size air beds with built in air pumps with the exception of one single bed that has box spring and mattress.
Guests have access to the entire house and grounds including the outdoor fireplace with plenty of wood and the hot tub. The out buildings are not accessible to guests and we have a few locked cabinets where we store personal items.
Interaction with guests
We live in a different town so will not likely interact in person with guests but it is very likely the neighbors will.
Other things to note
Currie has the amazing End-O-Line railroad park and museum that is nationally and internationally known. Make sure you see it. There is also a great dinner restaurant - the Lakeside Hideaway, a cafe with a bowling alley across the street and a gas station/convenience store on the south end of town. About 1.5 miles to the north of town is a great cafe for breakfast, lunch and dinner (supper as it's known in Currie). There is a bar/liquor store kiddie corner from the house and an American Legion directly across Mill Street. There is no grocery store in Currie but there are in Slayton, Westbrook and Tracy.
The house is pet free and smoke free. Smoking is allowed outside. We expect guests to treat the property with respect and leave it they way the find it. No need to wash bedding or linens. We use the house ourselves so there is food in the cupboards and refrigerator but other than seasonings etc. please do not eat our food except to make a pot of coffee or use the condiments unless there is an emergency.
