Quaint, clean, screened, renovated cottage on a safe, family road. Large tropical, green, fenced yard. Tiled patio w/ dining table, hammock and seating area.Ideal location!Just 150m from Fare; the main town; best white sand beaches, lagoon, stores & restaurants.Internet, stereo, clean linens, stocked kitchen, hot/cold water machine (refills 1200xpf),a hot shower inside & a cool out outdoors, 2 beach/town bicycles. Stay amongst the locals on this traditional Tahitian road. Owners live next door.

The space

Franky's has a loft-style bedroom upstairs with a queen-sized bed, a single bed, a fan, reading lamp, a place to hang clothes and plenty of shelf space. The bedroom is airy with screened windows and has a beautiful view of the yard, valley and mountains. Bedroom stairs are a bit steep. We always guarantee clean linens throughout the house; including the living room couch cover and pillows. Downstairs in the living area there is a comfy couch that also serves as a single bed (has a new, single bed mattress), a fan and stereo with ipod cord. The kitchen is fully stocked for cooking; including gas stove with oven (gas included), new fridge, hot/cold water machine (refills 1200xpf), coffee maker with filter, toaster and kettle. The bathroom has a hot shower with clean towels included; beach towels are provided. We have installed a high-pressure water pump and water tank. Water pressure can be a problem on the island; but the pump enables a good, hot shower. There is a large, tiled patio with large dining table, double-seated wood lounger, outdoor plug for phone/computer and a hammock. 2 beach/town bicycles are included for use around town and to the beaches…NOT for long distance touring. The Internet works well and has been used for business purposes; should you decide to do a bit of work :) Guests can have an cool outdoor shower after a hot day at the beach. The house is very close, a 5-minute walk (approx. 150 meters), from the main (only) town of Fare and the best white-sand beaches on the island for swimming, snorkeling, touring lagoon. Fare is the main meeting place on Huahine and has a large grocery store, morning outdoor market, boutiques, banks, restaurants and roulettes. Stay amongst the locals. Franky's is situated on a private, family road; making it safe and allowing visitors to experience Tahitian culture firsthand.

Guest access

Franky’s is situated on a beautiful, large, manicured, tropical, gated and fenced yard. It is simply a wonderful spot with a spectacular view of the valley and Mount Turi, the tallest mountain on Huahine; and your best weather indicator. It is ideally located in a valley with the main town of Fare just 150 m (about 10 houses) down the road. There are 2 bicycles for use to town or beach, not for long distance touring. We have masks and snorkels available for use. There is a small, local style BBQ available. Coolers are available for day trips. A clothes washer is available next door for laundry at a price of 1 000 XPF a load to cover hot water, electricity and detergent. One week of dish soap, garbage bags and toilet paper included. Longer staying guests must supply after one week, this keeps extended stay costs down.

Interaction with guests

You will be picked up and welcomed at the airport by Smith or Jocelyn and given a rundown of the island with useful information. Drop-off is also included at 1500 xpf. But, if you are arriving by boat between 10:00 pm and 6:00 am there will be a 2000 xpf charge. Smith was born and raised on Huahine and can answer just about any questions you have about the island; Jocelyn has lived here for almost 7 years. We live next door and are available for information or help, anytime of the day or night, 24 hours a day; just ring the bell. Franky's is on a private family road so it is a very safe spot.

Other things to note

Smith, my husband, and I met at a surf shop in Oahu, Hawaii; although he was born and raised in Huahine. We decided to return to his native Huahine to renovate, refurbish and bring his land and homes back to life. After working five long years we are able to see the dream of Franky's Fare completed; but are always improving. Our own house, next door, is a work in progress. We love to work on our houses and the yard. But, when the surf is up, we spend time with/by the ocean. My husband's passions are surfing and painting, but mostly surfing. Jocelyn loves Tahitian and Hawaiian dance, the beach and SUP. Our lives revolve around the ocean with swimming, surfing, outrigger canoeing, fishing, stand-up, kayaking, snorkeling or just chilling on the white sand beaches. Everyday is a wonderful day for adventure, exploring or just chilling out on Huahine: rain or shine.

Please NO SMOKING in the house! There is an ashtray under the Uru tree. Thanks!

Do as the Tahitians do and please DON’T wear your SHOES in the house.

Please, do not hang wet clothes on the hammock; it causes it to mold.

GARBAGE is Monday, Wednesday and Friday: 1 of WEEK of 50 litre bags (3) GARBAGE BAGS and TOILET PAPER (2)

BICYCLES: Please use the BIKE lock: Sorry, but if bike/bikes are missing or stolen from outside the property; it will have to be replaced ☺ PLEASE rinse the bikes under the outdoor shower after daily use. NOT for island touring just to town and beach.

If barking DOGS, including Franky, are bothering you, just give them a yell; this island is full of barking dogs, noisy chickens and roosters.

BUGS! The house is totally screened and sprayed, but you should close the doors at dusk to keep mosquitoes out. You may find a few dead visitors on your floor in the morning. As you know - this is the tropics and they want to come inside but the spray always gets the best of them. PLEASE! Burn mosquito coils outside the doors and not in the house!!!!!!!!!!!

Laundry is available at 1000 XPF/load: it helps to compensate for hot water, electricity, gas and detergent. There is no dryer, but Franky’s has three lines under the roof for hang drying. Also, there is a rack that can be used inside or out.

Jocelyn and Smith were top AirBnB hosts. They picked us up and dropped us off at the airport. Jocelyn even gave us a quick tour of the town on arrival. The house was down a residential street about 5 minutes walk to town or a few minutes by bike. Inside are all the amenities you need for a comfortable stay. It has no airconditioning but the upright fan did the job while we were there (March). Jocelyn loaned us a SUP board which was left at a friends house on the beach. The beach is fantastic. Clear blue water and white sand. There is even a drift snorkel if you are game.

The place is just gorgious, very centrally located, still very quiet in a wonderful garden, a short bike ride away from the best sandy beach of Huahine. Jocelyn and Smith are extremely nice people , very helpful, perfect hosts.

This is a great option to stay at while in Huahine. The house is located in Fare, the main village in Huahine, and this place has everything needed (and more) to make you feel at home. Both Jocelyn and Smith were great hosts. They picked us at the airport, showed the centre of the village, advised us on what to do, and lend us their masks and tubes for snorkelling on the beach. Staying at Franky's a Huahine Fare is the best option, totally recommended!

Great place to stay! We loved our time at Frankys. The house had everything we needed, it was clean, cute, comfortable. I'd love to stay there again. Jocelyn and Smitty are genuinely warm, friendly people and very helpful. Their house is next door so close enough if you need anything, but far enough that you (and they) have privacy. My son fell in love with their cat, Billy. :)

My teenage daughter and I spent 3 nights at Smith and Jocelyn's place at Franky's in Fare, Huahine. Three nights was not long enough. We had a wonderful and unforgettable experience. The place is next to Smith and Jocelyn's home, though it's a separate structure. We found it to be clean, functional, and comfortable. Going into it, I was concerned about the lack of air conditioning, because my daughter and I are half polar-bears and tend to sweat like stuck-pigs. I'm happy to say, for us, it wasn't an issue, with a frequent cross breeze keeping air moving through the house while the screens and whatever the hosts are doing for pest control do an amazingly good job of keeping out mosquitos. I don't think we saw a single mosquito in the house the entire trip. Outside the house was a different story, with my daughter counting her sand-flea ("no-nos" by the locals) and mosquito bites on her legs one night-she lost track after counting no past 50-but that's an issue with all of French Polynesia, not Franky's. Staying at Franky's in Huahine becomes an even better value when you consider that you don't need to rent a car, due to its location right outside Fare and the hosts providing bicycles. I do still recommend a 24 hour car rental, if you can afford it, to tour the island on your own. As is often the case, the hosts can make or break a vacation. I'm happy to say that Smith and Jocelyn are terrific hosts who exceed all expectations. They are genuine, caring, trustworthy people with whom we became fast friends.

Huahine is an incredible island, and Franky's is perfectly situated for you to make the most of it. Just a quick walk or bike ride (they are provided) to town, Franky's has everything you need. Bright and spacious, the place is decorated with some awesome art (Smith is quite the artist) and surfing memorabilia. The yard has lots of pretty flowers, an outdoor shower, and a hammock to swing your worries away. Although Jocelyn was away visiting family, she arranged everything with her partner Smith, who took great care of us. The firefighters at the airports went on strike while we were on the island, and Air Tahiti couldn't fly in or out. Smith helped us secure a boat over to our next destination (Raiatea), and we made it on schedule. If you get a chance, make sure you check out the beach in front of the abandoned Sofitel resort! The snorkelling out front is fantastic! Thanks again Jocelyn and Smith! Until next time.
