About this listing

Ganesha House is an antique Indonesian wooden house, carefully and sympathetically created to give a sense of space and a tone of rustic luxury. It has two bedrooms, two bathrooms and a 13m swimming pool. Away from, but quick access to bustling Ubud.

The space

Hati Suci (Clean or Pure Heart) is the name of our property. There are four houses on the property, Ganesha House is the largest, all have access to the gardens and swimming pool. All have their own unique sense of privacy.

Hati Suci is located 13 km, 20 mins north of busy Ubud. Amid luscious rice fields, on the edge of virgin jungle, it reflects conscious sustainability and permaculture principles. Flexible accommodation suiting family, friends, retreats.

IMPORTANT: This introductory offer reflects that the current temporary access is via a rice field path. Although beautiful and used daily by the local community, we consider that (at present) it would be unsuitable for elderly or infirm visitors.

The antique wooden structure, has personality and rustic luxury running throughout. The owners personal taste and belongings add to the warmth and homeliness of Ganesha House.

Ganesha House has two double bedrooms, two bathrooms, one with a large open air bath. It also has a well equipped kitchen, a sumptuous wooden dining table capable of seating sixteen, and a spacious living area that can be used as a meditation or yoga space.

Each bedroom has it’s own safe, big enough to hold a 17 inch laptop.

A 13m swimming pool is central to the property, surrounded by the maturing garden. A large comfortable Bale (covered seating area) is next to the pool, with other comfortable seating areas in abundance. Nearby, a covered traditional grass roofed building holds two hammocks and a swing chair for guests use.

The 13m pool is 1.4m deep and will shortly be converted into a salt water pool. The pool may be shared by guests who rent the smaller guest houses, however, Ganesha House and it’s private garden are for use solely by it’s tenants.

Hati Suci has been built with a conscious effort towards sustainability and permaculture. We have a passive solar water heating system, non chemical waste water treatment, rain catchment and gardens that are chemical free.

The Garden consists of vegetable gardens, herb areas, newly planted fruit trees and tropical planting. Any produce is available for your personal use. It is an ever evolving work in progress. There is also a fish pond, integral to the waste water system. Our gardeners take pride in this project based on permaculture principles. Flowers, butterflies and birds are plentiful.

Wi-Fi Internet is included (please bring your own laptop or tablet).

We do not have AC, and choose to take advantage of the natural breezes.

PETS: John and Mike are the two cats at Hati Suci. They are effective and necessary in keeping some wildlife out of the houses. Affectionate yet independent they are part of the rental. Our staff will take care of their needs.

We have easy access by motorbike or car (taxi services can be arranged) to Ubud, the cultural centre of Bali. The 20 minute drive is breathtaking, winding through the jungle, rice fields, river valleys and several traditional villages.

Ubud abounds with restaurants, shops, spas, yoga, cooking, batik and art classes along with many healing modalities. It has several art galleries and a museum. Evenings offer Balinese dance performances, Fire ceremonies and Gamelan.
We are a one and a half hour drive from the airport, one hour from the nearest beaches and half an hour from Kintamani, which is on the edge of the volcano, Mount Batur.

Hati Suci and the surrounding rice fields themselves are in a unique and tranquil setting. Higher than Ubud towards the foothills of the volcano, it is tropical but not as hot as the beach areas. There are fewer mosquitoes but wildlife is abundant.

Hati Suci has a manager, two housekeepers and a gardener.
We can also provide an onsite chef.
Laundry can be done for an additional fee. Also some local restaurants deliver to the house, menus are provided.

Guest access

Access to the property is via a 4 minute walk along a beautiful rice field path, most of which is concrete, however, the last 5 metres is unmade and unlit at present, so may be unsuitable for elderly or infirm visitors.

The swimming pool is a shared area between guests as is the pool Bale (covered seating area), and garden shelter.

Interaction with guests

There is daily cleaning, pool maintenance and gardening included. Our manager will be at hand and we provide an Indonesian mobile with useful numbers and contacts.
Daily offerings are made at the houses and temples on the land by our Balinese help. Should you want complete privacy at any time, then we will fully respect that, just please let us know, however, offerings have to be accommodated at some time most days.

Other things to note

1. The rental includes the manager, 3 housekeepers and 2 gardeners.

2. If possible bring a photocopy of your passport , it is required by law that all visitors be registered, and this will eliminate the need for your actual passport to be taken to the police station.

3. Mobile phones are available for your use.

4. There is unlimited internet access included with the house. Please be patient, Bali is not a first world country and occasionally internet lapses for short periods.

5. This is a safe area, however we are not responsible for any valuables left in the house. There is a strong secure safe in each bedroom, please keep your travel documents, money, laptops and any other valuables in there.

6. We can provide a laundry service,
An information sheet with itemised prices is in the houses.

7. We are in the middle of the working rice fields and, occasionally, usually for brief amounts of time, there can be issues with the electricity or internet. Please be patient, it is normally back on fairly quickly.

8. Our water supply is stored rain water with emergency top up through piped spring water. Our manager and gardener will monitor supplies.

9. Toilet and bathroom waste is managed through an organic waste water system using worms. Please never use bleach or strong chemicals, although the system copes with normal shampoos and soaps. Please use the bins provided for toilet paper and sanitary towels. Thank you.

10. Also, the area is teeming with birds and wildlife, occasionally these creatures might "trespass" ... they have no idea of what man-made boundaries mean. The staff clean thoroughly daily, so be assured we move them on and there are no actual "residents".

11. We have excellent reasonably priced massage therapists, manicurists etc. who can be scheduled at the property.
Massage beds are available at the property.

12 . We've already said it but John and Mike are the two resident cats that live here, with whoever is hosting. They are friendly and efficient at keeping unwanted small animals out of the house and our staff will feed them. We are sorry but their residency is non negotiable :-) Thank you.

13. We respectfully ask guests to stop playing music and keep the noise down after 9pm. We have close neighbours and hope that you can also respect their tranquility. Thank you

Our hosts arranged for us to be picked up from the airport, so we were met by a smiling and friendly local taxi driver whose English was excellent. When we arrived at Hati Suci, after a longish drive through town, village, forest and rice fields, we were greeted by a welcoming team of staff who carried our bags the short distance through the rice fields from driveway to our room. We entered through a Secret Garden - a green and lush haven, planted with fruits, vegetables and flowers. A beautiful permaculture garden. The “rooms” are actually separate Javanese style wooden houses, of various sizes and shapes, beautifully but simply furnished with a few antique pieces of furniture and comfortable beds, adorned with mosquito nets. (We were staying during the wet, rainy season, but even then we weren’t plagued by mosquitoes.) Each house has many open-air areas built in - kitchens (provided with basic cooking equipment, ‘fridge and complimentary bottled water, tea and coffee), balconies and Balinese open air shower/bathrooms. The bath and shower water was always hot and plentiful. Although there is no air-conditioning at Hati Suci, the rooms are provided with large electric fans which we hardly ever needed to use because the rooms are generally large and airy and open to natural ventilation. The gardens around the houses are studded with a variety of comfortable little areas for sitting, chilling, meditating and resting. Everywhere is bursting with life, both animal and vegetable. Huge butterflies, dragonflies, insects of all kinds, the resident cats, chickens and cockerels all on permanent patrol around the pathways, little staircases and flower-beds. In the evenings the sounds from the surrounding rice-fields and rainforest provide a tropical background hum; - running water, frogs, geckoes, unknowable insects of all kinds blend their voices with those of the gamelan, temple chanting and nearby villagers socialising together. We even saw a few bats and glow-worms flitting around after dark. We chose to eat Balinese food that was mainly provided by the in-house kitchen. It was prepared from fresh, local or home-grown produce and was always delicious. The managers and staff were ever-attentive, exceptionally kind and obliging. They arranged meals for us, booked our taxis, arranged for us to attend an excellent one-day course at a local Balinese cookery school and booked us in for wonderful massages and therapeutic sessions. Thank you Giles, Itha and staff for making our stay so comfortable, peaceful and enjoyable. Your place truly is a sanctuary from the noise of the busy world.

Paradise! If you need space to get away from the craziness of a busy life and sink yourself into nature then this is the place to be. Such a charming and easy place to relax, reconnect with yourself through massage and yoga and just having the time to breath out! What a treat. Take a walk in the rice plantations, explore the many sites nearby (I had a charming driver so you feel completely safe and looked after) or just spend time in the delightful environment watching nature go by. I particularly enjoyed watching families of ducks eating the weed from around the newly planted rice fields. Do take mosquito repellent for the evenings. The house is spacious and beautiful. Tim and Giles and all their staff are welcoming and incredibly friendly and helpful. A dream come true!

Had an absolutely lovely time here. They sent their driver, Pak Gusti, to fetch us from the airport to the property and he was really nice, spoke good english. The path to the house is along the rice fields and as stated by the owners, it's fine for most people but would not be advisable for elderly. It's a beautifully airy house with great views of the garden and rice fields. Was nice to be away from the hustle and bustle of Ubud. The owners came over to say hi and made us welcome. It is set amidst working rice fields so there is a gentle stream of people through the day in the fields but we never ever felt that it was an intrusion. Decor-wise, it's rustically elegant with wonderful gardens all around, lots of lounging spaces around the pool area with hammocks to chill out. The 2 house cats are absolutely adorable and we had one of them sleeping with us every night! The housekeeper arranged for a yoga instructor to come over for a lesson and it was a nice way to start the day. Wonderful place if you are looking for peace and serenity. Will definitely try to come back to stay for longer next time!

We booked for 3 nights and stayed 6! Loved the place, so peaceful and comfortable and we could totally relax. The setting is stunning looking out over the rice paddies and there are several places nearby to get a meal. One suggestion - if you arrive after 9pm, bring food with you as there is nothing open. Our hosts were delightful, highly recommend and look forward to our next visit.

If you are looking for a wonderful and quiet place in the middle of the rice paddies, further from the frenetic Ubud (25 min driving), I recommand strongly Hati Suci. During the reservation process, the contact with hosts was very prompt and easy. In place, Tim, Evelyn, Ilhu and their staff have been so kind and helpfull! They took care of us by lending a phone, advising a driver (Gusti is a fantastic guide too !), were the intermediates for everything. The house is also fantastic, so lovely decorated. We particularly loved the garden-bathroom, the view on the fields, the swimmingpool, and the rest areas. Cat Mike is also funny and friendly. The ambiance that Tim gave to this place is simply magic. For sure, we hope to come back to Hati Suci one day.

My fiancé, her brother and sister-in-law and I just completed our six day, five night stay at Hati Suci. This was my first AirBnB experience and first trip to Bali. We could not have been more pleased with our experience. Our late night monsoon airport ride through the windy foothills to the secluded retreat, started our trip off with just the perfect amount of adventure and intrigue. Soaked and disoriented, I admit I was a bit worried what I had signed us up for, but the moment we walked in the door, we were greeted with such warmth and graciousness from our hosts that we immediately began melt into the organic environment they had worked so hard to cultivate. All of our needs were met. A local cell phone was provided - our hosts were always quick to respond with local recommendations, coordinating drivers and last minute massages. Scooters were provided for transportation to Ubud and the local villages. The beds were clean and comfortable. The kitchen well stocked and convenient. The open air bathrooms were clean, private with plenty off hot water. The open spacious floor plan had you surrounded by the beauty of the rice fields and gardens and every turn. The Internet worked fine when needed. The pictures and descriptions from the AirBnB were very accurate and everything met our expectations perfectly. The hosts make it very clear in the description that there will be some interaction with the natural environment- frogs, geckos, etc. If you are looking for a more glossy, sheltered 5 star resort type experience, this is probably not for you. If you value authenticity and connection with local culture and natural curiosities, Hati Suci will not disappoint. As a side note, I had planned to propose to my girlfriend while in Bali. With no experience to work from, I had hoped to scout out a romantic location when I arrived. There were so many beautiful places in Bali that would have worked, but ultimately I was swept away by the simplicity and warmth of Hati Suci. A sunrise walk the the rice terraces with the volcano on the horizon provided the perfect backdrop for our special moment. This place will always hold significance for us and we cannot wait to visit again.
