Location

Midtown of Inverasdale , Scotland, United Kingdom

This is a friendly traditional crofting village in a very rural environment. There's plenty of scope for outdoor activities - walking, swimming, cycling, climbing, fishing, wildlife watching or messing about in kayaks - but not much in terms of nightlife! We're very close to some wonderful beaches, some within walking distance, and we're conveniently placed for hillwalkers.

There aren't many opportunities for formal dining, but there are plenty of pubs and cafes offering good food, some of which are open throughout the winter. (Note: some of these may be closed or offer takeaway only due to Covid19). There's a pub, shop, weekly market (not winter) and indoor heated swimming pool available in the local village of Poolewe (10 mins by car), and many more shops, pubs and takeaways in the larger village of Gairloch (20 minutes by car).

Boat trips and day cruises are also available in Gairloch or the ferry port of Ullapool (90 minutes) or you can go kayaking on our loch with local company Ewe Canoe. If you're into history, there are two local museums nearby to visit - Gairloch Heritage Museum, and the Russian Arctic Convoy Museum in Aultbea. Keen gardeners can visit Poolewe's world-famous Inverewe Garden (10 minutes), there is a pony trekking centre at nearby Red Point, and golfers can enjoy "possibly the best wee golf course in Scotland" at Gairloch Golf Club by the beach.

I run our family croft business along with my wife Clare and elder son Callum. We love to welcome people from all over the world to our two properties at Coille Bheag and many return again and again. I work part-time as a chef, Clare is a writer and Callum works as a gardener and forester. We grow our own produce on the 6-acre wooded croft (depending on the season) which you are welcome to buy from us! We love good food and In our spare time we enjoy playing the piano, writing, reading and watching movies, as well as enjoying all the outdoors has to offer. When you book one of our self-contained properties you can enjoy the space in peace and privacy, but we're there if you need us for anything! We enjoy city breaks when we travel because it's a nice contrast to the very rural area where we live! When we're in town we enjoy going to the theatre or to concerts, and seeking out interesting exhibitions, museums and restaurants.
