This spacious 230 square foot room is filled with lots of morning light! It is located on the east end of the third story of our home. Your bathroom is three doors down the hall from your room. Our bedroom is the room next to yours (we're quiet! and we use a separate bathroom). The floors are carpeted, but they do squeak because of their age. Your coffee machine is in your room for your convenience!

The space
Our beautiful, unique, and spacious house was built in 1896! Since then, the house has been well cared for and upgraded in stages to preserve its historic beauty and provide comfort for all who stay here. We are situated on a street lined with gorgeous, old oak trees, historic houses, and places of worship. The house is three stories tall, and very long from front to back. We are still working on updating parts of the house while preserving original features. The third story is partly yours with your own bathroom down the hall. Our bedroom is next to your room, and the other rooms are for owner storage.

Guest access
Guests are welcome to enjoy coffee and tea in the open second story common room and in your bedroom. There is a small fridge, snacks, dishware, utensils, and filtered water that you are welcome to use. To wash your dishes we have a small sink and dish rack in the laundry room through the 2nd story common room. Use of washer and dryer is for resident use only, or for guests staying more than one week. All guests are welcome to use the iron and ironing board, which are located in the laundry room.

The use of our downstairs first floor kitchen is limited to house residents due to the small space, our vegetarian lifestyle, and our frequent use of the kitchen. Thank you for understanding!

Other things to note
This is an old house! We are very fortunate that it has been well taken care of over the last 100+ years, but that does mean that it does have some quirks, including squeaky floors. One quirk is that part of the house is not connected to the HVAC system, including your bedroom and bathroom. Your bedroom does have a window AC unit and a fan, as well as radiator heating for the cold times of the year.

Your access to the house is through the double glass front doors. We use the back patio door for our personal access. You are welcome to store shoes under the bench next to the front door. Please feel free to use the umbrellas provided!

We love living in this residential neighborhood because of its natural beauty (lots of old, large trees, nearby waterways, gardens, and plenty of bird watching), lively community feel with little noise, and walking distance to cafes, restaurants, shops, and gorgeous houses to admire.

My name is Erin, and I host with my husband, Jason. We are a traveling couple who recently purchased a beautiful home in the historic district of Ghent, Norfolk. We spent nearly a decade living and hiking around Washington state before moving back to Virginia to be close to family. Our passions include world travel (most recently to Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, Bali, and India!), spending time in nature, reading, meeting other travelers, and serving (and tasting) tea, coffee, and wine. We are proud to share our beautiful 100 + year old, 3-story massive house in one of the most gorgeous neighborhoods in coastal Virginia. Much our time is spent putting lots of love and energy into updating and continually beautifying this beloved home so that we can invite travelers to visit with us and experience a very unique, quiet, yet vibrant neighborhood lined with old oaks and filled with gorgeous historic houses.

We give our guests privacy, but you may run into us in the halls or on your way in or out of the front door. We do our best to check in with you to see if you need anything or have any questions.
