Casa dos Sobreiros is 1 of 7 independent houses on the stunning 50 hectares estate Monte West Coast, with a big swimming pool, located in a valley only 5 km from the beach! Restored in 2013 using traditional methods combined with modern comfort. 66m2
Located in a beautiful valley only 5 km from the beach at Odeceixe and the center of the Natural Park, Casa dos Sobreiros (sobreiro means corktree in portuguese, there are two growing just by the main entrance) was restored in 2013 using traditional methods combined with modern comfort. The walls are 60 cm thick and to a great extent original.
The bedroom has a double bed (160x200 cm), a dresser and a hanger.
There is a big shower with hot water and a washbasin and a separate wc (both shower and wc with beautiful hydraulic mosaic tiles).
The kitchen, also this in traditional hydraulic mosaic, has an espresso machine, a refrigerator, an electric two plate stove, a water boiler and a toaster. The set of plates, glasses, cups, and cutlery is for 8 people. The kitchen has a table and chairs/stools that sit 4 people, as well as a sofa for 3 people and a chair in front of the fireplace.
In front of the main entrance is a 40 m2 terrace turned South overlooking the meadow, the stream and the hills on the other side of the valley. Passing in front of the house you reach another terrace, also facing South. The terrace is 15 m2 big and on three sides sheltered by original stone walls.
Just behind the house is the access to the estate's swimming pool, which is working all year around.
There is no washing machine, dishwasher or oven in the house. If you wish to wash some clothes that can be arranged for you by the housekeeper at a small fee per load.
Casa dos Sobreiros is one of 7 independent houses we have restored so far on the 50 hectares estate Monte West Coast. We rent out all of them. The biggest house is 311 m2 with 3 suites and the smallest just above 20 m2, please contact me if you wish to receive information on all of them! Here used to be a farm with a water mill and houses for several families, locals know it as Moinho (water mill) Aboboreira.
The river Seixe passes in the middle of the estate, then in front of the town Odeceixe and reaches the ocean 5 km downstream from us, at the outstanding Odeceixe beach (voted one of the Seven Wonders in Portugal).
A heated outdoor swimming-pool with a big sun-deck is at the disposal of all of our guests. It is located up the hill with a magnificent view of our part of the valley.
We have a big moroccan tent decorated as a lounge in front of the river, and with a little boat anchored next to it. Feel free to use both of them whenever you please.
On the other side of the estate are the farm's animals, among which you will find for example goats, peacocks, ducks, chicken and a cat.
The estate is in a protected area, only 3 km from the Southwest Alentejo and Vicentine Coast Natural Park. Driving inland from Monte West Coast you reach the mountains Serra de Monchique.
You easily reach Monte West Coast by turning towards Zambujeira de Baixo on the southern (Odeceixe) side of the Odeceixe bridge. This is, you make a right-turn just before the bridge if you are coming from the South, or a left-turn just after the bridge if you are coming from the North. The road then follows the river upstream for exactly 3 km (of which half is asphalt and the other half a dirt road in good conditions) and you have reached your destination. On your right is a small parking next to a big vase. Park there, walk down the stone stairs, cross the wooden bridge by foot and walk the stone-paved path to reach the houses.
Interaction with guests
One of the seven houses on Monte West Coast is where we spend almost all of our weekends and holidays, so it is very likely we'll be around! If we're not, our housekeeper will be there to give you the keys and help you get you settled
Other things to note
The house is cleaned daily, for 30 minutes, by our housekeeper, and the sheets and towels are changed twice a week. A crib can most likely be provided if asked for in advance.
We are convinced that you will behave well, respecting our space as if it was your own.
Important: there is water all over the estate (river, dam and a pool), if travelling with children please keep this risk in mind!
NOTE: Check in during the day. We ask you to please not arrive after the sunset the first day, since it'll be harder for you to find your way to the house in the dark (the area is only sparsely lit up to respect the animals living here. We have utters in the river!) and the housekeepers can only meet you at the house until 6-7 pm.

I have a swedish mum and a portuguese dad. Moved to Lisbon from Stockholm in 2009. Since we came across Monte West Coast, which now belongs to my husband and me, this is where we spend almost all of our weekends and holidays. We have two sons, born 2010 and 2012, and a daughter born 2016!
