The space
This funky home is rumored to have been built by and for the workers who put in the infrastructure for the train, which went into service in the early 1890s. It's been through many owners and tenants since, including a birdhouse-building chicken and duck fancier, and a life-loving gentleman whose husky may have been even more free-spirited and famous than his master.

It's a funky old home on a paved rural road in this friendly touristic small town neighborhood. There's vehicles, bikes and people going for walks (some with and without their dogs on leashes, plus the occasional free-range friendly village dog or cat). As the home with deck in front is close to the road, and a neighbor is just across the street, it's important that any guest dogs are well-behaved (the dock across and up the road is more private, however it's not far down the shoreline from where people during the day hangout, launch their canoes, etc., throw sticks for their dogs, and so on). It used to be, on Sundays from approx. 10am to 2pm through the summer there was some noise from cyclists, as Ch. Riverside access was restricted for their use excepting local traffic, from the junction with Ch. Rockhurst near the home to where the road eventually meets Route 105 in Cascades approx. 10 km south.

I've been connected to this house in Wakefield for a good part of my life because of my Dad who lived there for a while in the early to mid 70s, then later for the rest of his life after he returned a decade later. He was known in the community for his contributions as a bird fancier (chickens and ducks) and birdhouse builder, whereas in my case, I've perhaps gained some local recognition as a guitarist, drummer and singer performing at such music events as Canada Day on the Chrysalis II paddle-wheeler, 100 Mile Farm Music Festival, Kaffe 1870, Warnockstock and The Ramsay Road Music Festival.

During your stay

Although I may be able to greet you personally on occasion, for the most part access to the home will be via lockbox, and as my cottage space is next door, you may bump into me from time to time (although the dock space is reserved for use by guests, as my boat is docked there, you may also see me on occasion when departing / returning from boating on the river).
