Welcome to The Green Dragon Guest House!
[COVID NOTICE] This is a COVID-Safe Space. Proof of COVID-19 vaccination is required for all guests and visitors. More details about our current health safety practices can be found at the bottom of this description (just above “Guest Access”).
[ABOUT THE SPACE]
Frequent AirBnBers who stay at The Green Dragon Guest House often tell me “This is the best AirBnB I’ve ever stayed at.” I also have had a number of repeat guests here on business who have come back again and again. Now, there are definitely more “posh” AirBnBs out there. The Green Dragon Guest House is not for everyone (check out the photos to get a sense of the decor). But for those who it IS for, it is a gem. Super-comfortable bed, relaxing and peaceful environment, freshly laundered linens, clean spaces, special touches such as a large overhead shower, in-toilet bidet, Qi chargers on the nightstand, organic soaps, shampoo and conditioner, and breakfast essentials included (that you make yourself) with sourdough toast, pasture-raised eggs, organic oatmeal and organic fair trade French-press coffee and (a fairly wide selection of) teas, plus a selection of sweeteners inc. organic sugar, stevia and agave, fruit spreads, and both dairy and non-dairy butters and creamers.
(From our wonderful guests—December 2019]
"Beautiful, enchanting guest house with great views of the beach. Excellent service. Everything you need within walking distance. Excellent value with all of the amenities anyone could possibly need. All of my needs were met beyond expectation. Could not have asked for more."
"Being at the Guest House felt like being home, to me."
"It was one of the most restful stays I have ever had while traveling, and I travel a LOT."
"Definitely recommend this place. Has all utilities you need for a comfortable stay. Chill and relaxing vibe near the shore. Love all the organic soaps and shampoos. Vibe is great and you have your own space."
[Welcome]
The Green Dragon Guest House is not for everyone, but for those whom it is for, it may be exactly what you are looking for: A moderate price for a relaxing, gentle place to stay (including organic soaps, bathrobes and a bed some have said is "almost too comfortable") in a neighborhood that has all the amenities you need, plus immediate access to one of the only beaches in the SF Bay Area. Or, as a recent guest put it: "beyond my expectations."
This being said, we are not a hotel; we are a guest house. We are also not the cheapest AirBnb on the market. But we also are not even close to being the most expensive--and if you book late and are lucky enough for us to still have availability, then you're in for a low-priced treat. If you are really looking for the right place to stay for a few days to a few weeks or even longer, consider studying the photo tour of the guest house, and perhaps take a look at our website: Green Dragon Guest House Dot Info. They can help you decide if the Green Dragon Guest House is the right place for you.
Guests sometimes report two “downsides” to staying here. They are 1) that you may have to walk around the corner, or cross a few very short blocks to get to and from your car, as parking immediately near the guest house can fill up in late afternoon or early evening. The walk is typically no more than 3 minutes, and is about the same distance I walk to get to my own car. As long as you don’t leave bags visible in your car, parking here is quite safe. And 2) the drive to San Francisco can take 30 - 60 minutes, sometimes longer if at the peak of rush hour or if there is an accident on the freeway. During rush hour, the local ferry is often faster and offers a beautiful ride to and from.. For tourists this distance often means choosing between the guest house’s comfort, relaxation, relative quiet and beauty (and a beach!) over “being in the heart of it all” and paying for that privilege (as city prices are often double ours, or more). It is a choice.
[And, here are all the rest of the basics:]
The view and immediate proximity to Crown State Beach make this space truly special. Your bedroom has a view of the Bay, and can just walk outside, cross the street and you are there with an over mile-long beach to enjoy, where sunsets are often stunning! Your bed is also super comfortable, even "too comfortable, as I have a hard time getting up in the morning!" according to some guests who have stayed here. You have your own room, and the rest of the apartment is shared space, with either your host and/or other guests staying here (there can be up to 5 people in total staying in the apartment). A stay at the Green Dragon Guest House includes breakfast "essentials" (see above).
[POTENTIAL NEW PETS] Your host is planning to get a dog or two kittens sometime in 2022. If it is 2022 you are allergic to cats or dogs then the guest house may not be for you. If you have concerns, check with your host to see if he has gotten pet(s) yet.
[DETAILED COVID NOTICE] We will have thoroughly cleaned and disinfected your room and bathroom sink area prior to your arrival. In addition, bottles of disinfectant are provided in each of the public spaces (bathroom, kitchen, dining area and entry hall), as well as in your private room.
Your host, Markus, is fully vaccinated. We expect all guests to show your host proof of full vaccination upon booking and prior to check-in. And, as booster shots become recommended, we ask guests to get their booster shots (currently [as of 9/2021] about 8 months after your last vaccination).
The Green Dragon Guest House complies with local, state and federal heqlth guidelines. As of 1 November 2021, Alameda County has dropped its indoor mask requirements—provided everyone in the indoor space has either been vaccinated or received a recent negative COVID-19 test result. Since we do require proof of COVID-19 vaccination, wearing masks is again optional in the Guest House. We continue to run our HEPA air filters in the public spaces of the guest house as a health precaution against potential breakthrough COVID infection, as well as the potential spread of other viruses such as influenza.
