Quiet end-of-road location, sweet mountain views, clean cozy and private space. Classic VT singletrack mountain bike riding is 100yds away…no driving necessary. Our lovely dirt road connects to scores or hundreds of miles of world class gravel biking…again, no driving. Minutes to hiking trails in Green Mtn National Forest and paddling on the upper White River. A 2.5 mile XC ski and snowshoe loop passes through the property. Ridgeline Outdoor Collective backcountry ski glades are close by.

The space
This bright second floor apartment features a large deck with amazing views of Rochester Mountain, Mount Cushman, and Braintree Mountain. The sunny living space contains a full and outfitted kitchen, a full bath with tub/shower, and a comfortable bedroom with a queen size bed. The apartment is attached to a family home, but has a private entrance and plenty of parking. Wireless DSL internet is available, as well as a TV/DVD player, but no cable access. We have a grid-tied solar system on the roof so your energy needs are met on-site. We are located at the end of a well-maintained dead-end road on four lovely acres, just 2 miles from Route 100.

Mike is a furnituremaker and works out of his woodshop here on Sawmill Hill. He spends his free time kayaking local whitewater and backcountry skiing out the back door. Carrie is an education administrator in area schools, and is an avid runner and XC skier. Our boys Henry (7) and Porter (5) help keep tabs on our daughter Lucy (1).

Our place is 4 miles from Rochester, a quintessential Vermont town with a large village green, several hip cafes & restaurants, bucolic views, and many opportunities for outdoor recreation. Nearby attractions include

- Green Mountain National Forest and the Long Trail
-Short drives to Killington, Sugarbush, Mad River Glen, and the Middlebury Snowbowl, as well as unlimited backcountry skiing
-Excellent canoeing, kayaking, tubing, swimming and fishing on the upper White River and its tributaries
-Extensive local and regional biking- both road and mountain- and a legendary bike shop right in town.
-Lots of local art: pottery, glass, jewelry, wood, theatre, live music, writers, fine art
-Short scenic drives to neighoring areas: the Mad River Valley and Capitol District, the Champlain Valley, and the Connecticut River Valley

Guest access
Don't feel limited to the apartment and deck. Check out our animals, garden, fields, woods, walk up the road, around the field, down to the brook....whatever.

Neighbourhood highlights

You don't have to be that 'outdoorsy' to really enjoy this place. If you have a sturdy pair of shoes and clothing appropriate to the season, you can walk any number of miles of quiet dirt road with just the occasional passing car to punctuate a world of meadows, forests, barns, and far-off mountains. A chair-and-book combination can be another good option, on the sunny deck or in the shade of an old maple tree.
