The space

Poynings lies at the foot of the legendary landmark of Devil's Dyke, now part of the South Downs National Park. The South Downs Way is about half a mile away and runs along the Devils Dyke. This is a wonderland for walkers and cyclists with many many challenging or more leisurely walks and rides on the doorstep. Devils Dyke is a famous site for hangliding and paragliding - spellbinding to watch even as a non-participant.

Poynings is a great base for exploring the local countryside with Brighton 6 miles South, Lewes 10 miles East, Worthing 10 miles West. Beautiful and historic towns such as Chichester and Arundel are within easy reach, London is an hour by train and Gatwick approx 30 minutes by road.

There are two pubs within easy reach - one in Poynings and one in the next village - approximately a mile. Both serve good food and beer.

All bed linen and towels are provided. WIFI available.
Check in is normally after 4pm but please contact me if you need to make specific arrangements.
There are tea and coffee making facilities in the room and you are welcome to use the spacious kitchen where a self serve continental breakfast is provided.

I have two double rooms available one on this listing and one under South Downs village. A further large room which can be used as a family room (one double bed and two single Z-beds) is available on request.

We stayed at Jill's place overnight as a part of a hike down the south downs. The location was perfect, with beautiful surroundings and a decent pub meal around the corner. The room was bright, clean and comfortable with an en suite. Jill was a perfect host and made us feel very at ease, and very well looked after with a great breakfast, packed lunch and homemade flapjacks! We would definitely stay again, or warmly recommended to other walkers.

Jill and Roger have been amazing hosts and did their best to make me feel at home. It's the perfect place to spend some relaxed days away from the city. There are lots of great hiking possibilities around Poynings and the Royal Oaks Pub is just great. Highly recommended!

Jill and Roger made me feel very welcome. It was almost like visiting friends. Everything was very homely. Every effort was made to make sure I felt comfortable. The listing description is accurate. On suite shower and toilet is included, tea and coffee facilities in room. Everything you could want for a continental style breakfast. What a delight to find the building called the "Letterbox" is an old post office and village store. (a profession I was involved with in my own village for 14 years.) The accommodation is set on the South Downs, a stones throw away from the Devil's Dyke walking routes. It is in an outstanding area of natural beauty. Outside of my stay at the "Letterbox", the local "Royal Oak" Inn serves the most amazing food. It appears the chef is renowned for their cuisine. The atmosphere there is also very welcoming too. I would definitely visit again. This was my first use of the airbnb website and I must say that this was an excellent first time experience for me. I am planning to return to Poynings and Jill & Rogers hospitality at the "Letterbox" in the spring to make good use of the local walking routes on the South Downs, when the weather will enhance this already beautiful setting. Five Stars all round, thanks to Jill and Roger and their lovely home at the Letterbox cottage, plus the beautiful area and village pub atmosphere.

Warm welcome from Jill who had communicated well with us even though we had to change our arrival time and were actually arriving in the evening. The house is quirky with lots of paintings and has amazing views from the kitchen up to Devil's Dyke. Great location near to nature, in a peaceful village with friendly hosts.
