We invite you to stay in our completely remodeled 1940s cabin. Our goal is to provide a superbly clean & comfortable stay with access to a multitude of outdoor activities. Very short drives (or medium walks) to both Midtown and the Grindstone Lake. Ski Apache, Ruidoso Downs Race Track, Smokey Bear Historical Park, Billy the Kid Museum, and many more beautiful sites and parks are also nearby. We are family-friendly and love dogs. Come enjoy the mountains and wildlife right out your front door!

The space
Hi! Thank you for your interest in our cabin, The Wild Onion. We purchased and renovated this cabin as a full-time vacation rental with all the little details we would expect to find in a rental for ourselves.
Ruidoso is our home, and we love to share the undiscovered pleasures of the area. We have mountains, rivers, hunting, fishing, biking, skiing, shopping, restaurants, and so much more.
Kids are always welcome, and we're pet friendly too (with prior approval). Just let us know who you're bringing.

House:
We have lovingly renovated and modernized this 1940s cabin. The Wild Onion is located west of Midtown, right between Upper Canyon and Grindstone Lake, in a well-established Ruidoso neighborhood. You'll likely wake up to deer, elk, birds, and lots of other wildlife right there in the yard. Although we are in a neighborhood, the cabin sits on a large corner lot, with a comfortable distance between neighbors.
The cabin has been updated with all conveniences, including a brand new kitchen, renovated bathroom, all new furniture, and WiFi, but it still retains that 1940s cabin charm. If you have any special needs, just ask. We live just five minutes away.

Parking:
There is a driveway in the back of the cabin and in the front. Each provides parking for one car.

Entry:
We ask that you please use only the front door to enter and exit the cabin.

Sleeping areas:
The house sleeps up to five people, but it’s also perfect for a couple who want a quiet getaway.
There is one private bedroom, which has a queen-size Tuft & Needle foam mattress, fitted with luxury bedding. If you’ll be using the available Pack n’ Play, there’s plenty of room for it in the bedroom. And don’t worry if you forget your phone charger! On each of the nightstands is a lamp with a wireless charger (for compatible phones) and a USB port built right into the base. In the bedroom, you'll also have a tall dresser and an open closet to fit all of your belongings. Turn up the baseboard heater in the cooler months to keep it nice and warm.
The twin-size daybed & trundle are located across from the front door.
The couch serves as the fifth sleeping spot.
We gladly provide all bed linens and pillows.

Bathrooms:
We have a large full bathroom with a clawfoot tub, which also serves as a shower. We provide towels, soap, lotion, toilet paper, and a few other little things that you may have left at home.

Living room:
Comfortably relax on the couch, or cozy up in the armchair. We provide board games, playing cards, kids books and toys.

Kitchen:
The kitchen is fully-equipped, and you’ll have everything you need to cook a meal, bake cookies, or just make coffee and toast. The refrigerator is a smaller model but can hold enough food for a family. Plus, we have a dishwasher for easy clean up.
We provide olive oil and basic spices. If you need anything we don’t have, we'll do our very best to accommodate.
We love coffee! We provide a Keurig with an assortment of K-cups, or if you prefer to brew more than just a cup, we also have a Mr. Coffee drip coffee maker. We provide ground Starbucks Pike Place, creamer, sugar, stevia, and honey. We also provide a selection of teas.
Just off the kitchen is a small laundry room, complete with a washer, dryer, and laundry detergent.

Entertainment:
The cabin has high speed WiFi access, HD over-the-air TV channels, and an Amazon Fire TV. You can watch unlimited shows and movies on our Amazon Prime account, or sign in to any of your accounts to watch what you want (NFL, NHL, HBO, MLB, iTunes, Hulu, Netflix, etc).

Kid stuff:
Because you're probably traveling with enough stuff already, we do have a high chair, a Pack ’n Play, kids’ dishes & utensils, toys, and books. Just let us know if there's a little one in your group so we can have things ready.

PETS:
Although we do allow pets, please no cats due to major allergies in the family. We do provide a food and water bowl and poo bags (please use) for dogs. Please use a leash when you take your dog outside, as the yard is not fenced. If you plan to leave your dog at the cabin while you're out, only do so if the dog is very well-mannered and will without-a-doubt not cause any damage to the property/furniture OR keep the dog in a kennel. We ask that you please keep shedding dogs off of furniture. We will check for damages upon check-out and send a request for money, as necessary. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding!
