The space

A very centrally located and recently refurbished spacious flat with large living-room and adjacent bedroom separated by wood and crystal sliding doors. All with A/C, autonomous central heating, and newly polished wooden floor. Grey marble bathroom and extra WC. Functional kitchen with stove, oven, fridge, kettle, toaster, coffee machine. Balcony (with double glazed window) overlooking Akadimias street, one of the main roads of Athens.

Periodically the flat serves as an artist's showroom. Therefore, the space is decorated with original paintings. Two of the rooms in the flat are not accessible by guests. However, if required one of these rooms which has a double bed (140X200) can be opened to guests following arrangement and at reasonable extra charge (look at pict. 33-37).

The main bedroom has a double bed (140X200). The living-room has 2 very comfortable sofa beds (140X200). If required, two extra fold-up beds can be put in the living room instead of the second sofa. Also, a baby's crib and high chair can be provided at no extra cost. Bed linen, towels, and toiletries are our responsibility. So are dishes, glasses, cutlery, saucepans, etc. Next to the kitchen there is an auxiliary room with washing machine, ironing board, iron, etc.

The flat is centrally heated by autonomous gas heating, which can be turned on by our guests 24/7. Hot water is provided by independent electrical boiler for exclusive use by our guests. Brand new A/C in both the living room and bedroom. Free speedy wireless connection.

All major Athenian museums and archaeological sites (including the Acropolis and its new museum) are at walking distance (from 5 to 20 mins). So are Lycabettus hill and the National Gardens. Access to all public transport (metro, buses, and tram) is extremely easy. In fact, there is a taxi stand right outside the street door. Super market (Carrefour) is located at 100m from the flat. Several banks can be found just round the corner.

The neighborhood, characterized by the pedestrian network of Voukourestiou and Valaoritou streets, is a classic meeting point for Athenians; therefore it is very lively and safe, full of cafes, sandwhich bars, wine bars, shops, and restaurants.

We have lived in the vicinity throughout our lives. At present, our home is in Plaka, the historical neighborhood of Athens, only ten minutes away from this flat. We are fluent in English, French, and Italian and we usually welcome our guests in person (unless we are away on business or holiday). When we are away our associate replaces us. We have travelled extensively both within Greece and abroad and we are involved in the cultural and intellectual life of the city. Therefore, we can provide interesting tips about walks, sites of interest, shopping, eating out, food markets, travelling to the mainland and the islands, etc.

If parking space is needed there are several paid garages in the area.

If you are interested in renting a larger and very special flat with large verandas and stunning view of the Acropolis, please have a look at our other listing (
Finally, a smaller, quiet & bright apartment with balcony and fabulous park view at Hilton area is also available. See listing

The Parliament and National Gardens are within 4-5mins walk. Many museums at 5-10mins walk (Benaki, Cycladic Art, Byzantine). The historical neighborhood of Plaka at 10-15mins walk. The Acropolis at 20mins walk. But you can also easily take a taxi to any interesting site since the taxi stand is right outside the building's door.

Maria was really friendly and helpful, communicating with her was more than easy. The apartment itself was a really nice experience for the 4 of us. It is located in the very beautiful center of Athens, in a nice building with an elevator. From there we could walk into almost every district that we wanted to go to. The apartment is very well equipped and bright. Only one advice: when you are taller than 1,70m, you should rather sleep on the sofa instead of the folding beds, cause they amight be a bit too short. We can recommend this apartment to everyone who looks for a nice and calm stay in the center of Athens.

Thank you Asja. Come back anyime. One small point for our readers: I asked you if you preferred to have the fold up beds or the sofas and your choice was the beds.... Anyway, I am glad you enjoyed your stay and the city of Athens.

Maria's apartment is an artistic one, there's a lot of style to it, though it is simple and very pleasant. The location is perfect, a five minute walk from the pedestrian zone. We haven't used the subway once! Loved our stay in Athens!

The apartment is located in a busy part of Athens that is perfect situated for exploring the major sites and for accessing public transport. There is even a taxi stand right outside. It was spacious, clean and had all we needed to make dinner for ourselves. Our host, Maria, was very helpful, meeting us at the apartment on arrival and checking to make sure if we needed anything. I would recommend this apartment to my friends and family.

This is a spacious and well located apartment. You can walk to Syntagma Square and Plaka easily, and there are plenty of places to eat nearby. We were a family of four and the apartment was spacious and clean. We felt very comfortable, the apartment had a nice, positive energy and the internet was good. We stayed during the Christmas break and the apartment was quite warm. This is important as many Athens apartments use air conditioners for heating during the winter, which is not ideal as it’s just hot air making it either too hot or too cold. Marica was very prompt and thorough in her responses to emails. We did not meet her personally, but she kept in constant contact throughout our stay to make sure everything was OK. We would definitely recommend this apartment.

The apartment is very big and well orgenized, the kitchen has everything, the location is good. We were with 3 kids and it was more then enough place for all. we even got a baby chair and a baby bad for our baby. We realy liked the place. The only issue was about mosquitos, there were too many though we kept all window closed. I hope it is becouse of the weather but it was realy too much.

I am glad you appreciated the apartment and enjoyed your stay. Athens has mosquitos in the summer and fall but they cannot get into the apartment if one keeps the windows shut.

I am an Athenian and social anthropologist, who has travelled, studied, and lived abroad for several years. I speak Greek, English, French, and some Italian. My husband is an artist and our three children are also involved in the arts (artist, photographer, and architect).
I run the properties that appear on this website myself with the assistance of my daughter and an experienced cleaning person who has been working with my family for the last 25 years.
