Great location
100% of recent guests gave the location a 5-star rating.
Moonrise Cottage is a cosy two bedroomed cottage in a peaceful area of South Donegal with views towards Killybegs Harbour, Donegal Bay and the Wild Atlantic Way.
There are great walks from the cottage. The beautiful villages of Killybegs and Ardara are a few minutes drive.
The cottage has a living room, a wood/peat burning stove, a modern kitchen, two double bedrooms and one bathroom with a shower over bath. Wifi provided.
On 3/4 acres of land. Parking space.
Not suitable for young children.

The space
Floors are tiled or wooden, with rugs.
Two double beds are standard 4'6" each, with duvets (no feather) and extra quilts.
The shower is electric and is situated over the bath tub, so you need to be able to step over the side of the bath to get in and out.
Central heating is pre-set on a timer to come on twice a day. Outside this you may use the multi fuel stove. A starter pack is provided for lighting a fire in the wood/peat burning stove.
TV (local and UK channels) and DVD player (and a selection of films). There is an iPod dock.
Fibre broadband internet access.
Avail of professional reflexology sessions just next door.
The cottage has forests close by, where red deer and foxes live and often can be glimpsed from the windows at dawn. The grass around the cottage is only partly mowed, to allow the wild flowers to flourish and attract bees, birds and butterflies.
There is a small stream under the hedge at the front of the garden and the corner of the field is quite soft.
Well behaved dogs are welcome (this is sheep country!), by prior arrangement.

Where you’ll be

County Donegal, Ireland

Perfectly situated to take in the now famed Wild Atlantic Way, the cottage is situated between the fishing village of Killybegs (5km) and Ardara (10km), famed for it's hand weaving and woollens. Both villages have all the necessary amenities as well as bars and restaurants offering local seafood and music, coffee shops, heritage centres and local handmade crafts. There are numerous local festivals held each year with themes from Walking and traditional music to Bluegrass and even Matchmaking! Local activities include sea angling, horse riding, golf, boat trips and of course miles and miles of good walking, taking in lakes, holy wells, rivers and megalithic tombs. Slieve League, the highest sea cliffs in Europe (almost three times higher than the famous Cliffs of Moher) are along the coast and the blue flag Fintra Beach is less than 10 minutes drive away.
Donegal's recent accolades include being National Geographic's 'Coolest Place on the Planet'; Independent Travellers magazine's 'Ireland's Hidden Gem'; Monty Hall (TV broadcaster, adventure traveller) describes Donegal's shores as world class; the International Appalachian Trail now runs across south Donegal and even Star Wars Last Jedi couldn't resist! Part of the latest film was made in Donegal!
Details of all these delights are kept in the cottage, but importantly, a few of my favourite places for good tea and cake are Ahoy! (great blueberry scones) and Mrs. B's (in Killybegs), The Pod (a tiny caravan selling yummy treats and good coffee, along the coast at Largy - with views to die for!) and Salthill Cabin (at Mountcharles Pier, towards Donegal Town).
But most of all I love the place for it's peace, the birdsong, the mystic wildness, fairy forts and rugged beauty.
