My girlfriend and I had a great stay at the Big Butternut Lake Fishing Cabins. The cabin was clean, well cared for, warm, and well supplied. We are looking forward to making it back next summer!

My husband and I rented cabin #3 for three nights of Labor Day weekend. We booked it for Thursday- Sunday, paid in full, and then John called me to tell me they were overbooked, and I would need to change our reservations to Wednesday- Saturday. He added that the booking on Airbnb would remain the same. This was a little frustrating. We also asked to rent a fishing boat and motor while there. When we arrived, John was there to greet us, and showed us around the cabin. It was small but seemed to have everything we would need. The setting on the lake was great, only we could barely see the lake, because all of the bushes and trees in front of the cabin were overgrown. There was a nice fire ring and free firewood was available. We had two nice fires while there. And even saw some northern lights! When we tried to unpack, we realized that there would be absolutely no place to put our bags, clothes, toiletries, etc.; there were no end tables or bedside tables. No dressers or shelves. We had to pile everything on the kitchen table and chairs. The bathroom had a new floor and sink. Again, no place to set anything! The only mirror in the entire cabin was a 9"x12" on a tiny little medicine cabinet. We were given three towels for two people for three days! There was no housekeeping service and no extra toilet paper. We found some in the basement of another cabin. There were no kitchen towels or dish cloths and very minimal kitchen accessories. The bed was very uncomfortable, and the futon/couch was worse. Thank goodness we brought our own anti/gravity chairs from home! Our biggest disappointment was the boat. The fishing boat we rented wouldn't start. So John said we could rent the pontoon boat for $100/ two days. He told us he usually gets $200/2 days. The pontoon was horribly filthy, old, poorly maintained, and covered in spider webs. The carpet was covered with moss and mold. There was no seating, just three dirty wet plastic chairs covered in spider webs. The life jackets were wet, dirty, and in a heap on the floor. It was a dangerous boat, to say the least. John insisted that we pay him$100 cash, which we did. He did not think there was a problem with the pontoon! I have many photos. The fishing was great! The weather was perfect! We enjoyed our time in spite of the uncomfortable cabin and awful pontoon. Big Butternut Lake is a great fishing lake!

The neighborhood was quiet. Golf course right down the street which we will definitely try and get on next time. Store and bait shop nearby. Everything was as we expected. Simple cabin with all the basics, great fishing (we caught about 30, at least half straight off the dock), exactly what we wanted. John was very responsive whenever we had questions, we will definitely be coming back.

This was a fabulous trip for our family. It was such a peaceful lake, lots of fish to catch and anything we needed was easy to get. John and Karen were extremely nice and inviting. We would definitely go back again!

The location of the cabin is great, right on the lake but also close enough to town. Great little Cafe (Cafe Wren) only a few miles away and you can walk right down to the golf course.

This is a real lakeside cabin...and has the basic cabin feel. It is stunningly (I mean breathtakingly) beautiful. Everything works well and cell phone access is good. John was there to meet me and delightful and genuinely helpful. If you want a stunning lakeside experience this is your place. Thank you John ----Jim

We are looking forward to having you as a guest! We are a small family business. Big Butternut Lake is well known for great fishing. If you're looking for a new place to fish, we have northern pike, walleye, bass, crappie, and pan fish. Early morning and evening fishing off our dock is one of the best places on the lake! If you love to fish or just have a cup of coffee listening to the loons, we hope you will bring your family and make memories for a lifetime!
