The space
The Bothy is a 4 star NI Tourist Board accredited accommodation. It was first opened in March 2014 but only recently became available through Airbnb. Dating from the 1700s the Bothy has been fully modernised whilst retaining all its original charm. The thick walls, modern insulation and central heating ensure that it is beautifully warm throughout the year whilst the fully equipped kitchen has an energy efficient oven/hob and appliances that are all A-rated or higher.

All accommodation is on the ground floor. Two bedrooms: 1 x double and 1 x twin. Bath with deluge shower over, basin and WC. Lounge with dining area, hall and fitted kitchen. Note: There are two internal steps.

Oil central heating with woodburner in lounge. Electric oven & hob, microwave, fridge/freezer, washing machine/dryer, dishwasher, Wifi, Smart TV, DVD, radio/CD, library of books, games & DVDs, cot & highchair, hairdryer, fresh flowers and welcome pack.

Bed linen, hand and bath towels are included along with all environmentally friendly bathroom and kitchen toiletries. A starter pack for our eco friendly wood burning stove is included together with oil fired central heating and electricity. Dogs and smoking are not allowed as we pride ourselves on keeping a healthy clean environment for people who may be sensitive to air pollution and allergies.

Outside is a lawned garden and woodland area for the exclusive use of guests staying in the Bothy. There is a patio with furniture and BBQ and ample lockable storage for bikes, golf clubs and surf boards.

Neighbourhood highlights

The Bothy lies in a tranquil rural setting 5 miles from the seaside village of Ballycastle. Ballycastle offers many facilities, including petrol garages, supermarkets, butchers, bakers, greengrocers, restaurants and cafes, a chemist, several churches, a post office, with money changer and ATM. There is also a small Medical Clinic with doctors available.

The cottage is perfect location from which to explore the Causeway Coast, Antrim Glens and forest parks, whether by car, walking or cycling, yet is within comfortable travelling distance of Belfast, to visit the Titanic Quarter for instance, and beyond (the Ulster Folk Park and the Transport Museum are worth a visit). A ferry to nearby Rathlin Island operates several times a day but booking is advisable.

White Park Bay is a beautiful beach (shared with cows) but is unsafe for swimming and surfing. Nearby bathing beaches are at Ballycastle, Cushendall and Whitefoot. The landscape is marvellous and changes at every bend or shift of light. Oh, and for Game of Thrones fans Pyke, the Iron Islands (Ballintoy Harbour) and the King's Road (Dark Hedges) are just a short distance away.
