Being located 5 mins. from the heart of Kona has its advantages. It's cooler, quieter, away from the commercialized Hawaii, while still being minutes to beaches, restaurants, activities.
We try to provide you with a home away from home feeling and some of the amenities you can't bring with you like a washer & dryer, full kitchen, & full size fridge so that you can feel right at home.
If you're not into the hustle &bustle of commercialized Kona, please give our ohana a try.
The space
Our ohana has an open layout. Designed after a beach-side rental, it has very easy access that flows from kitchen to bathroom. It has stained concrete floors, & windows that are positioned to capture the breeze - these come together to keep you cool that sometimes nights, especially during the wintertime, can be cold.
However, if peace and quiet is what you are looking for, our place is not for you. We live upstairs and hearing normal family noises, along with neighborhood kids playing down the road, is to be expected. But with the location, amenities offered at the price advertised, this unit is the perfect cozy space for two.
It sits approximately at 700 feet elevation on the slopes of Mt. Hualalai, so it rains often here versus down at sea level. Please keep in mind that Hawai’i is a Tropical Island, and certain creatures like geckos, toads and bugs are common especially after a rainy day.
Guest access
I always recommend to get a rental car to fully enjoy the Big Island Experience. Parking for the unit is street parking, and it is a walk up a steep driveway to the unit.
Unfortunately, the Big Island has horrible public transportation, maybe a bus or two which goes around the island so expect long hours of waiting. There are bikes for rent in town, but with the unit sitting on a hill, expect an uphill battle.
Uber/Lyft also exists here if one chooses to forgo renting a car. It’s also a nice and safe neighborhood to walk around in.
Other things to note
From the street parking, guests will need to walk up a steep driveway to get to the unit. One may choose to enter from the back road which is not steep, however that path is not paved, mostly dirt and crushed rock.
Please also keep in mind that it is located in Hawaii, a tropical island. Bugs and geckos come with the territory. The place is always cleaned, sanitized, and have regular pest-control maintenance. The property sits at 700 ft elevation so it rains more than at sea level, so it brings about termites, gnats and other bugs. Please keep the lights off when not in use, and always keep the front door close to minimize them from coming in.

Neighbourhood highlights
Studio is located in one of the most sought after neighborhood in Kona because it is very close to town and our place is located at a higher elevation so it is cooler than it is downtown. It is also situated in a very quiet street, apart from the family of turkeys seen roaming around the neighborhood.
You’ll get the ohana feel because of some neighborhood kids, including mine, playing down the road, so expect those typical family “noise”.
