It was a lovely, peaceful location, away from hustle and bustle but a good base if you want to explore Galway and the area to the north of Oughterard.

Mary made me and my family very welcome. The house was great, very cosy with a great fire, and in a great location. The location is very good for exploring Connemara, and Galway is not too far away for things to do when it is raining.

I highly recommend staying here, especially if you're looking to spend time exploring the Connemara region. The location was perfect for several days trips, and the view of the lake was wonderful. Having the sheep as neighbors and grazing right outside was also a treat. The cottage has all the amenities you need and is very clean. Mary was very attentive and thoughtfully brought us a flashlight and candles just in case the power went out during the remnants of storm Ophelia. We would definitely stay here again!

Mary’s cottage is a wonderful place to stay north of Galway, with quick access to Oughterard. Sheep grazing around the cottage, nearby mules, and swans in the lake added to its charms. Mary was a delightful host—friendly, and a great communicator before and during our stay.

This was our third visit to Island View Cottage, and we hope to return. Mary is the definition of a Super Host. The cottage is immaculately kept. It is well stocked for cooking and washing, and the library of books and travel guides grows each year. We didn't have much time to watch tv, but it was very convenient to have Wi-fi access this year. The cottage is near Oughterard, a gateway to the mountains of Connemara. We took many day trips, e.g. Clifton and Cong, and found new walking trails, thanks to Mary and Martin's expertise. The guest books in the cottage include rave reviews from visitors from Europe, the UK, Canada, Australia, and the US--if you could read just a few, you would book Island View Cottage for your trip to Ireland.
