Fossil Cottage is in a row of idyllic stone cottages, in an area of outstanding natural beauty. Surrounded by fields in the hamlet of Berryl, but under a 10 minute walk to the village pub. Complete peace with only the sound of the birds, sheep and Cows! 2 miles to stunning national trust coastline and swimming beaches. A perfect base to explore the Island. Dog friendly, adult only. The space
Hedgerow, Fossil Cottage and The Bake House are one bedroom cottages in an idyllic rural location which is quiet and peaceful in the midst of secluded South Isle of Wight countryside, two miles from the coast and 5 minutes walk from The White Horse Inn, a quality Island dining pub. There are spectacular views of the downs from all around the cottage, with beautiful sunsets. In the fields are dairy cows, a stream, hawthorn hedges and plenty of wildlife. The cottage is excellently situated for walking, cycling and fishing and romantic breaks. There is easy access on to the footpaths directly outside the cottage which join the extensive Stenbury and Worsley trails near Appuldurcombe, or the west wight coastal paths, all providing panoramic views. At close by Nettlecombe Farm (short footpath walk) there are three well stocked fishing lakes (permits available).

This is an original island stone cottage in a row of three adjoining, ex farm workers cottages which are several hundred years old. This lovely cottage is tastefully decorated and furnished. You enter into an attractive living room with newly installed log burner, leading on to a well equipped kitchen with wood work surfaces. The kitchen is well-equipped with fitted units, electric oven and hob, microwave, refrigerator with small freezer section and washing machine.

Upstairs is an attractive double bedroom and separate bathroom with a bath and excellent overhead shower. At the rear of the property is a private, secure courtyard garden with table and chairs and sun loungers and to the front of the cottage is an open communal area, but with your own wooden picnic bench. The sun rises to the rear and sets at the front. A car may be parked beside the cottages.

A five minute walk leads to historic Whitwell village and dining pub. The White Horse pub is very popular for meals and there is an attractive 700-year old church. Close by is Niton village with post office, food shops and beautiful St Catherine’s Lighthouse. Under ten minutes by car is the pretty Victorian seaside town of Ventnor with its own micro climate offering sandy beaches, sub-tropical botanic gardens and local ale. You can also walk to Ventnor using public footpaths leading straight from the house with spectacular views.

The surrounding areas are truly beautiful and this is the perfect place from which to explore the whole Island, or just stay close by.

PLEASE NOTE vehicle access to the cottage is over the fields along a private, unmade farm track. This may not suit a very low slung sports car. It is used daily and we have had no issues if it's driven slowly, and have had all manner of cars and delivery vehicles manage it on a regular basis.
The village may be accessed back along the farm track (10 mins on foot, or by car) or by public footpath on foot taking, approx 5 minute.

Guests have the use of a private 1 bedroom cottage with living room, kitchen, bedroom and bathroom, Private, fully enclosed, sunny courtyard to the rear and communal area to the front to watch stunning sunsets across the fields.

Our check in day is flexible so when planning your stay please remember the ferries are much cheaper on week days and out of peak travel times. Always check the ferry websites for this. I can also supply ferry discount codes and top tips for cheaper travel once a booking has been made with us. If you have Tesco club card vouchers, they are 3 to the pound, so a ferry crossing costing £120 will be £40 worth of Tesco club card vouchers!
