Neighbourhood highlights

I moved to Amble by the Sea six years ago and I just love it!
Here are just a few things;
1. A proper working harbour with sea going boats..when they land the fish, gulls whirl about to see what they can steal. You can buy fresh fish at the Harbour every day. There’s a beach to meander on and when the tide is out you can walk down to Hauxley, a little village south of Amble.
There are boats for hire to see Coquet Island..a bird sanctuary about a mile off the coast ...or for fishing trips...at the Harbour too.
2. A pretty, picturesque Marina with lovely boats to have a walk around with a nice bar, with views going up to Warkworth one way and down to the pier the other. Great place to take sunset photos. This is beside the Braid, which is a big grassy area where you can run your dogs.
3. Last year, Amble won the best coastal High Street. We have a great selection of shops and , at a time when some High Streets are declining...we’re expanding.
4. The Pods..these are upended boats made into little, cute craft and artisan shops. They are located at the Harbour, round the corner from the cottage and sell arts, crafts and specialised foods. There is a lobster hatchery there too...we’re trying to expand the lobster colony here. If you call in they’ll show you lots of the tiniest lobsters!
5. Great restaurants on the doorstep! No taxi required. The Boatyard has won awards for the last 2 years as the best fish restaurant in the U.K.
6. A good selection of pubs, bistros and coffee shops....most of them dog friendly....in particular, a few small breweries have popped up in the last couple of years.
7. Lovely walks..by the sea or in the country..Amble is also very cycle friendly..hire bikes are available locally. Kayaks and surf/paddle boards are also available for hire....tuition is available if required.
8. Golden beaches that stretch for miles...even in the Summer you can find stretches of beach with no one else there!
9. Lots of local picturesque villages..castles..secluded bays..nice pubs..great restaurants..fab art shops...bird sanctuaries...golf beside the sea...all within a few miles of Amble by the Sea.
10. And ..the greatest Northumberland foible...you can’t go anywhere without people saying ‘hello’ ...your Dovecote Corner neighbours will treat you as if you’ve lived in Amble for years!!
Amble by the Sea isn’t called ‘the friendliest port’ for nothing!!!

My work: Semi retired.
Lives in Amble, United Kingdom
I’m Diane..I’m semi retired but like to have a project! I started with Dovecote Corner which has inadvertently ended up being the sort of place I love staying at when I’m on holiday. It’s in a village, close to a working harbour ...fresh fish...plenty of great walks, pubs, restaurants, cafes, beaches and castles! Then I expanded to Lakeside Lodge....completely different from Dovecote it’s incredibly tranquil with lake frontage, geese, ducks and all sorts of wildlife...a great hot tub, it’s a real home from home. On a personal level, I like travelling to places with a bit of history/eating out/movies and theatre/walking/books/all sorts of music/meeting people. Northumberland has lots to offer and I always try to make you aware of what’s going on!!
