Description

The space

Je parle français aussi!
Please read the full listing before booking, I don't know about you but I hate surprises!

The charm of this room is that it is 16m2, with plenty of space to unpack and settle in for your stay. It looks onto private gardens and not the street and so it is a pretty quiet room! It has a queen size high quality comfy bed plus a desk and an armchair.

The flat is 85 square metres on the 1st floor of an old style French building with windows on two sides, the kitchen and living room give onto the street, busy with traffic and the buzz of city life but the bedrooms give onto neighboring gardens. The front and back are divided by a large room which separates the living and sleeping quarters very well. It has extraordinarily high ceilings that give it a charm that can only be experienced in person! It is truly French and very beautiful. There is a small balcony that is the full length of the front of the building.
The apartment is very cosy, clean and airy. You have a great boulangerie just yards away on Place Carnon if you would like to step out and collect croissants or pain au chocolat, you won’t be disappointed. The toilet is separate to the bathroom. The toilet has a sink and cabinet too so no queues for brushing your teeth! The bathroom has a sink and a bathtub/shower.
There is a cat called Basil and another called Leo. They are friendly but don't like to be picked up. If you don't like cats, don't book here, the cats are very present!

Guest access

Guests have access to their room which has a bed, a desk and an armchair, The bathrooms are obviously accessible and also the living room most of the time. The kitchen can be used early evening but I prefer to keep it as a private space later in the evenings.

Interaction with guests

I work but not fixed hours so I am around at different times of the day, I am happy to help with any information but am often busy working at home. Please feel free to come and go as you please as you will have your own keys. There is a folder in your room with all info about the flat, things to do in Montpellier various flyers/business cards left buy guests and maps. I send the main documents to guests in advance by e-mail to help with trip planning.

The neighbourhood

Just a few metres from the new entrance to the train station, very convenient for late arrivals and early departures. My flat is situated in a charming part of Montpellier on Boulevard Strasbourg, on which you can find everything you need just 1 minute from the door: a great mini supermarket, on Place Carnon there is a fabulous boulangerie, butcher, fruit and veg shop, tobacconist and cafés and take away food places. There is also an “épicerie” downstairs open till 11pm if you forgot something.
Cross the bridge of the station and in 2 mins you are at the bottom of rue Mageuelone, the hub for all 4 tram lines, including that to the beach. There you are only 2 minutes on foot to the Place de la Comédie; the entrance to the historical centre of Montpellier.
Take a shortcut from my flat and you could be in the shopping centre, Le Polygone, in 5 mins. Head to Antigone and you will be at the Olympic swimming pool on foot in 10 mins.
I really like living here as I am not in the absolute heart of the historical city so I don't have to handle the noise of that, but I am just moments away.

Getting around

All 4 tramlines are right next to my place plus the main train station and any bus route that connects with La Gare.

Other things to note

Please see my profile for more info about me.
I can only accept reservations from guests with a detailed message, complete profile, photo and verifications, ID essential. Reviews are preferred too!
It is important that you communicate your arrival time as soon as you know it so that I can be ready for your arrival. If you just give a date and no arrival time I will assume that after 19hr is ok for you. I try to collect guests at the train station doors when I can.

Fiona is a wonderful host. She is very cool, easy-going respectful and helpful. I stayed at her flat for nearly 4 months and I'm sure it couldn't have been a better choice. I enjoyed both the privacy I was given and her company as well as Bazil's and Leo's (the 2 amazing Fiona's cats). I can just fully recommand staying at Fiona's place! The neighborhood is very pleasant, full of shops and central: a stone's throw away from the old town, the train station and tram station to the beaches. Fiona, thank you again for everything!

Fiona was a wonderful host! Unfortunately, we had only one night at her place before heading back home. She gave us a very warm welcome and introduced us to her nice and funny cats. The appartment is realy nice and absolutely close to the trainstation. At the same time the room is quiet and we had a good sleep! Fiona knows a lot of good places to go and there are many information (dinning, lunch, nightlife, beaches, renting bike - and things you wouldn't think of but appreciate - printed out in a folder in the room. We enjoyed our time there! Thank you, Fiona!

Fiona's place is wonderful. Clean, tidy and tasteful, it makes you feel at home at once. The room is very specious and quite and the location is great for taking a walk in the city as well as traveling to the surroundings. Fiona was the most welcoming host one can hope for, especially when traveling alone. She is attentive and caring and knows the city deeply. She was sensitive and flexible in giving me both the space I needed and a good conversation and interaction when wanted. Only downside is that I stayed for only one night... most recommended, and to be sure I'll be back next time in Montpellier! Thank you Fiona!!

We spent four days at Fiona . The hostess is very hospitable , kind, sympathetic . Very fond memories of beautiful and stylish suites that are conveniently located geographically : the main square within easy walking distance , and nearby is the transportation hub consisting of a station and the intersection of all the tram lines . The apartment is very clean and nice located , cozy atmosphere . I recommend to all!!!

Fiona is a warming, friendly and lovely host. If you want to experience Montpellier her tips that she'll give you are very nice. If you travel by train Fionas room is ideal for your vacation since the room is 1-2 minutes from the train station and at the same time very close to the center of Montpellier. The aesthetic room, a charming host and her lovely cats will make your time in Montpellier something you will like to remember back such as the few days I spended there with my girlfriend.

Fiona has a well deserved superhost rating. She is very welcoming, warm and organized. The location of her flat is perfect if you intend on arriving, or leaving by train. She generously helped me plan the 24 hours I spent in Montpellier The hits Fiona's apartment is clean and well organized. The bedroom is large and comfortable. Included - a binder with the house rules, Fiona's Things To Do, a fan and clean towels. The bedroom is at the back of the apartment so it's also very quiet. For me, the location was ideal as I did not want to spend extra time and money getting from the train station to my accommodation. Fiona also kindly allowed me access to her bike as I had recently suffered an ankle injury that prevented me from walking all day. The misses As much as I would love to provide an excellent rating, there were a couple of things that I wasn't thrilled about: Cigarette smell - the listing indicates that Fiona smokes by the window, which I assumed would make the place smoke free. This was not the case however and the place definitely smells like cigarettes, which is only magnified whenever she is smoking - not something I was fond of Pets - Fiona's cats were friendly and she keeps their litterbox clean. When I arrived, however, the cats were napping on the bed that I would sleep in. While I didn't mind the interaction with the cats, I would have preferred if the guest room was off limits to her pets.

The apartment is very cute, just steps from the Gare Saint-Roch, it's well-equipped, you only need to buy what you are going to cook. Fiona is a very nice person, very friendly and also very patient. If I return to Montpellier, I would not hesitate in choosing her apartment again.

Fiona User ProfileFiona is a superhost.

I am Irish and live in Monptellier in the South of France. I teach English at the university of Montpellier and have a history of working in Hotel Management and Human resourses in Belfast city, Ireland. In chronological order I have lived in Dublin, Paris, Belfast, Uganda and now Montpellier. I do home exchange for holidays and my favorite exchange is LA, California, I just can't get enough of the great attitude and zest for life. Having had a great experience of Airbnb as a client in San Diego in 2013 I decided to become a host! I love meeting new people and love to provide good hospitality to visitors! I think my flat is beautiful and comfortable enough to host guests who want a comfy bed in someone's home! It is not perfect but is cosy and I am happy that people seem at home here.
