Where you’ll be

Montevideo, Uruguay

The Old Town of the City of Montevideo, known as The Old Town, is a walk into the past that breathes the spirit of the political and economic center of the country, where the epicenter of the city's cultural “movement” is located, a place where the past and the present coexist among historical buildings, bookstores and busy city life. To discover this important tourist sector of the city, it is enough to have a curious spirit and desire to walk.
Steps from the port, where the bay of Montevideo is located with a succession of buildings of various styles that indicate that the ancient city was born there.
Opposite the port is one of the most typical spots in town: the Port Market, where a feast for the palate unfolds between tasty barbecues and guitar chords, bandoneon and drums.
If we turn down any little street, we find colonial, baroque and classic buildings of great architectural and heritage value, touring them takes us back in time, forcing us to breathe an air as ancient as it is welcoming.
Zabala Square, with its monument in honour of the founder of Montevideo, is one of the clear examples of the Parisian influence of the city, inspired by European “garden cities”. With the imposing presence of the Taranco Palace, considered the most representative expression of residential architecture of the early 20th century, it is today an exquisite museum open to the public.
The Main Square with the Cathedral, the Cabildo, the Sarandí pedestrian street, as well as the Teatro Solis and the Citadel gate, are other places that make the Old Town unique.
