A spacious and well-lit top (5th) floor apartment in the center of Cihangir. The bedroom has a small balcony and sleeps 2. There is a separate office room. Enjoy a magnificent cityscape. Close to restaurants, shops, galleries, and public transport.

The space

This tidy apartment has abundant windows, allowing for natural light and beautiful cityscape views. It is also in a prime location, especially if you are interested in the arts. The streets are lined with outdoor cafes, teahouses, and restaurants and there are plenty of cool, funky shops that specialize in vintage clothing, independent designers, and antiques, among others. The neighborhood is very friendly and walking distance to anything you might want to explore in Istanbul, and public transportation is just a short walk away. The apartment is also on the very top floor, so you needn't worry about neighbors living above you.

Guest access

Wireless internet, kitchen, bathroom, washing machine (and a drying rack for your clothes), hot water, hair dryer, iron and ironing board, elevator, office/working space, essentials (linens and towels), garbage pick up, small balcony off of the bedroom.

*****
Please note that the bed is a mattress without a base and it sleeps two people.

Interaction with guests

I will be traveling, but I will be reachable via e-mail and phone, and you will be in touch with my friend who will give you the keys and help you get into the apartment and get settled. I will also leave a map of Istanbul and a list of fun things to do during your stay.

Seyma made me feel welcome from the first instance. She was very punctual on contacting me and met me at the time arranged. Seyma welcomed me into her home, offered me a drink and then actually took time to get to know me. It felt like making a friend, not a transaction. She then took the trouble of walking me around the neighbourhood and introducing me to all the wonderful local cafe's, restaurants and gems in the area. For the rest of my stay I immediately felt welcomed into all these local establishments making my time there incredibly homely. Seyma also emailed me a very comprehensive list of galleries, clubs, bars etc around Istanbul giving me a personal view of the city and not a generic guide book approach. Whilst staying in the appartment Seyma emailed me a few times just to see how i was getting on and if there was anything that she could help with.

Seyma's flat was absolutely beautiful, filled with sunlight all day, wonderful pieces of furniture and interesting books. It was very clean and well maintained, with everything working in order. The flat is located in a fab area, which feels far less touristy than other parts. There are lots of funky little cafes to play Backgammon in, antique shops to get lost in and so many vintage clothes! One is just a short walk away from the centre, Taksim square and Istanbul Modern. Seyma left us a very detailed list of places to eat/dance/drink/visit slightly more under the radar which we would have been LOST without. Highly recommend everything on her list. Although she was away until our last day, we liaised with her friends, Hannah and Meagan, who were very attentive and helpful. We met Seyma for a traditional Turkish breakfast on our last day, which I am so glad we got a chance to do. Seyma is such a lovely, charismatic woman with lots of interesting stories to tell about insider's Istanbul. All in all, a truly wonderful flat with an equally wonderful owner.

Seyma was very communicative and nice. Dealing with her local contact person was easy and pleasant. The location of the flat is great and the view is magnificent. However there is no real bed (just a mattress on the floor), there is way too much light in the bedroom (thin white curtains = wake up at 6.00 every day) and kitchen and toilet would really need a facelift. There was also a water leak in the bedroom from the ceiling, due to abundant rain during our stay. The internet connection was a bit unstable. Lastly, it is clear that someone lives there (we found clothes and all kinds of personal belongings). There were rotting fruits in the kitchen and half-eaten food in the fridge. Overall, good value for money considering the location and the view, but there definitely were shortcomings with the flat.

We spent a wonderful week in Seyma's place. The spacious apartment, which has big windows offering rooftop view of the city, is located in the lovely and hip Chihangir neighborhood. The apartment was very clean and in good condition and Seyma left us fresh towels an bed linen. Seyma is a caring and attentive hostess - on the living room table she left us a great guide which she compiled and included recommendations for restaurants and other attractions. Every question we had was answerd promptly (either be her through e-mail, or through a phone call to her friend). We would definitely love to stay there again!

My name is Seyma and I'm a 27-year-old book editor and writer, and I recently returned to the US after living and working between Istanbul and Utrecht for two years. I'm originally from Turkey, but grew up in The Netherlands and the US (upstate New York). I am seeking a room to sublet/rent in NYC, as I will move there on Sept. 1, 2015.
