Professional business. We have 3 self-catering holiday cottages nestled in our 17th century converted farm building. We have a 10x5m shared pool. The grounds extend for 7 acres alongside the small L’Escourou stream and are open to our guests.

Cottage Amélie is styled to be calm and welcoming. With exposed stone, wooden floors and oak beams the house has a modern rustic feel. The bedrooms are fresh and comfortable and we keep the cottages clean and well-appointed.

The space
2 bedroom cottage, 1 shower room, 1 further toilet, sleeps 4.

Named after the 2001 film 'Amélie' that starred Audrey Tatou and was directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet, this cottage is situated next to the Pigeonnière (dovecote tower) of our 300 year-old converted farm building.

Cottage features:

This is a two bedroom cottage with one upstairs bathroom with a shower and a downstairs toilet / utility room. It can sleep four. Downstairs there is a kitchen / dining room with a log burner and cosy sofa, plus a separate lounge and a view across the rear meadow. Upstairs there are two bedrooms, one double and one twin. There is a shower room.

It faces south across the front garden and there is a private setting area with table and benches for eating and drinking.

With exposed beams and wooden ceilings, this cottage blends the old farm building features with modern comfortable living. It was recently beautifully and thoughtfully renovated.

Like all our cottages, Amélie has access to our 7 acre garden, meadow and shared swimming pool. The pool area has a patio, decked area and lawn, and is the sun-trap of our property, catching the sun beautifully from midday until sundown. There is a BBQ to hand and table tennis and games available in the barn.

Guest access
We have a large shared swimming pool (10x5m) with steps from one end. The pool area has a patio and large wooden decked area surrounded by trees, giving both shade and privacy. The area catches the sun beautifully from midday until sunset. There is a shaded gazebo and sun loungers and side tables.

We have 7 acres of private garden. The front lawn is planted with trees and shrubs. We tend to leave the rear meadow to grow wild flowers. The lower glade is a gorgeous, private area furthest from the house. A real bonus for picnics or quiet reading alongside the stream.

It takes 20 minutes to stroll the loop around our garden. We think it's perfect for an after dinner stroll in the evening sun.

Cottages de Garrigue has an adjacent public chemin (equivalent to a UK public footpath) meaning short or long walks can be taken directly from your front door.

Other things to note
Cottages de Garrigue is set in the lower Dordogne in the South West of France near Bergerac. It is a beautiful rural area with gentle hills and vineyards as far as the eye can see. The region is very popular with tourists although you never feel it is crowded. This popularity brings a vast network of restaurants, public chateaux, attractions and events.

Taxe de Séjours

Our local commune levies a small tourist tax on all types of holiday accommodation. We fall into a low cost category, but have to collect the charge regardless and pass it to the commune Mairie. The money collected goes towards supporting tourism in the local area. Airbnb should collect this on yours and our behalf.

Our wider area

We are brimming with activities within 45mins of Cottages de Garrigue. There is wine tasting galore, chateaux open for public view, kayaking on the Dordogne, Lot and Garonne rivers, horse riding, golf, beautiful walks and picnic areas. There are many other Medieval bastide villages around; Monpazier and Issigeac are very pretty for instance. Each has a weekly market and worth a trip for food or other goodies.

Summer events

Summer events are popular in our area. There are regular music, film, cultural, jazz, youth, wine tasting and food events. Throughout the summer night markets are popular to buy food, drinks and sit on the communal tables provided. This is the poster for the Eymet night market - every Tuesday from 7pm until the end of August.

Many of our regional towns and villages host summer events. Our advice is to keep your eye out for posters while you are here. Going with the flow often results in unexpected fun.

Walking

This region of France has an extensive network of public footpaths. These are clearly marked and pass through beautiful scenery. Most link together so whether you're after a stroll or a hike there is something for you. We have a footpath adjacent to our house which can take you across the local fields or woods on several circular routes back to the house.

Neighbourhood highlights

We are connected to commune of Fonroque but our nearest town is Eymet.

EYMET

Eymet is our nearest town. It is a Medieval bastide, typical of this region. It has a lovely town square which holds a twice-weekly market during the summer. Eymet is in a sequence of Bastide towns in the area, and the only one with its own chateaux (albeit now a restored ruin, great for outdoor cinema and other town events). Eymet has a variety of restaurants: French gourmet, simpler French cuisine, Italian, Peruvian, Crepes, English, a takeaway pizza pop up. Bookings are recommended throughout the summer and we can help you with this.

BERGERAC

Bergerac is our nearest big town. In fact, it’s the largest town for miles around. The Dordogne is renowned for its lack of big cities, adding to the clean air and gentler way of life. Bergerac is a bustling town only 25 minutes north of Cottages de Garrigue on the main D933 road. It shows off the Dordogne river beautifully and has the rustic charm of an ancient French town. There is excellent shopping of all descriptions in Bergerac, plus many restaurants and cafes. It is excellent for a day or night out – or both.
