Along the Pan American Hwy. we are situated only 2 hours north of the spectacular Paracas Marine Reserve and Candelabro Island and 4 hours north of the famous Nazca Lines. If you are looking for some R&R next to the ocean and within a ten minute walk along the breathtaking malecón to the neighboring village of San Bartolo where there are ferias, pharmacies, open-air markets, retail stores, and excellent Peruvian seafood, Asian and Italian restaurants, accompanied by cozy sidewalk cafes, then this is for you!

Why our home?

Where you’ll be

Santa María del Mar, Municipalidad Metropolitana de Lima, Peru

Santa Maria del Mar is surrounded by the Pacific ocean to the west, the Andes mountains (Cuzco, Machu Picchu, Lake Titicaca) to the east, the cities of Lima, Ancash and Cajamarca to the North, and the cities and sites of Paracas, Vineyards of Ica, Nasca Lines and Arequipa to the south. It's a great access point for all that Lima has to offer and yet you are not really inside the city of Lima. Next door to Santa Maria del Mar is the small and quaint town of San Bartolo with less than 10 000 inhabitants. From SMM it's a fifteen minute walk along the 'malecón' where you can see the ocean and beaches from the cliff above. In San Bartolo you will find a variety of first class restaurants, local retail shopping and open air markets, pharmacies, and mini-supermarkets. You can get around for US 0.30 per person by taking a local 'moto-taxi'. There are also buses that leave and arrive from Lima every 15 minutes. There is a lovely plaza on the edge of the malecón at San Bartolo with a classical coastline church and City Hall. The views of the ocean are spectacular from this point! There is a natural water spout - a hole in the rocks nearby where water is jetted high into the air by the pressure of in-coming waves.

We're a semi-retired couple (John & Pati) with desire to travel between Peru and Bolivia where we own two houses. We have time to travel to more distant areas of the world during our summer (Dec. to Mar.) when we rent our home on the Southern coast of Peru for 3-4 months straight. The rest of the year we live back and forth in our homes in Bolivia and Peru. We've decided now to rent our Peruvisn home on the coast through Airbnb from Apr. to Nov. Pati and I will be there to make sure our guests are well taken care of. From Dec. to April we will rent the same home to one person/family for the summer season. We are active grandparents. Our children and grandchildren live in Bolivia, Dubai and Australia but we are all attached to Peru where most were born. We all would like to return yearly to Peru and spend quality time together at our home on the ocean at Santa Maria del Mar. Pati is a part-time teacher who specializes in child education. I used to own a small Coffee Shop in Bolivia which kept me pretty busy. I plan to open another one next to our beach home in Lima. PERÚ'S CULINARY CULTURE IS COMING OF AGE! We love Peruvian and Japanese cuisine. Peru has many traditional and cutting edge restaurants that experiment in food technologies and integrate a wide variety of influences in culinary culture and diversity of soils and climates thoughout the fertile valleys of the Andes and coastal region. Peru has one of the world's most abubdant marine coastlines for fish, seafood and emerging organic culinary secrets of the Amazon jungle. These wonders have for centuries influenced the gastronomic realities of these three extensive regions in Peru and are now availabñe for everyone to savor and experience: 500 Years of Fusion. I used to direct and oversee a wide range of international NGOs and designed and managed social development projects and education programs world-wide. I co-founded a not-for-profit University in Bolivia. I am still closely connected. We love people. We love to get involved in community activities. We love to engage in significant conversations around a hot cup of exquisite Andean coffee or tea. We love to build sincere friendships with others. We seek diversity, history and culture. We listen and are passionate about learning. We try to be happy and joyful beings most of the time. Pati"s motto in life is: Holistic education empowers transformation... My motto in life is: A free spirit empowers a life of learning and action...
