The flooring bedroom contains two single beds (plus one extra bedding) and two thick curvy wooden beams can be enjoyed under the house roof.

The house is also fully equipped by high-techs such as a 40 inch wide full high resolution TV, a free wireless LAN, a BOSE wireless Bluetooth speaker, a cell phone as taxi/owner pager, an air conditioner (for both summer and winter) for each of all three rooms, an automatic wash and dryer machine, toilet with washlet function. All of these will well support and entertain your life as if you are at home.

Shimpei more than earned his Superhost status with his genuine accessibility and care for us. He was extraordinarily helpful in arranging appropriate luggage forwarding services both before our arrival and onwards, so that we could spend our last day with minimal luggage before picking up our suitcases at the airport when checking in. The apartment is a fascinating and authentic taste of beautifully planned both traditional and modern high-tech Japanese living in a comfortable and friendly neighbourhood. It's a touch off the direct transport systems, but using the bikes as locals do (supplied free), these are easily accessible and there is excellent bike parking at the nearest metro station, about a 5 min cycle ride away. There are sights which were on our hit-list (notably Daisen-in zen garden), as well as very pleasant restaurants and food shops, within easy walking distance. Alternatively, Shimpei leaves a phone programmed to a local metered taxi service, who arrive promptly at the press of just one button, so lack of Japanese is not a problem. Shimpei's English is excellent and he will assist with any bookings needing a Japanese speaker. Highly recommended for a trouble-free stay.

Response from Shimpei:
Thank you Tricia and Nick for the stay and for such a great review which certainly motivate me to longer stay with AirBnB. It was an ideal experience for me as well with a lot of learning and fun aspects that we cannot obtain from other channels than AirBnB. Languages were always at least a small issue no matter where I spent outside of Japan so one of my goals is to remove or minimize the stress to maximize the benefits of the precious time and money of the guests. Very much looking forward to seeing you two (and Chris and his group) sometime in the near future! Shimpei

Shimpei was an impeccable host who took time and great care to respond to our questions and recommendation requests before and during our stay. We had an amazing time at his beautiful house. Traditional and very comfortable, whilst spacious and highly equipped for our needs as a family. The location with bikes at the house gave us more opportunities to explore the surrounding areas. Highly recommeded, we wouldn't stay anywhere else in Kyoto

Response from Shimpei:
Thank you Claire for the stay and it was my pleasure to have met you and your family in person and enjoyed the cycling. Bike is useful especially in a place like this which is a bit away from downtown but close to temples/shrines/river. I look forward to hosting you sometime in the near future! Shimpei

We loved staying at this apartment. It was really excellent. Spacious, clean and incredibly helpful in terms of information provided. It is a 15-20 minute walk from the underground station, there are some good supermarkets near by and an excellent converbelt sushi restaurant! Couldn't recommend it highly enough for any one couple or family wanting to stay in Kyoto.

Response from Shimpei:
Thank you Holly for the stay. I too found the house is not so close to the station, the neighbor is reasonably convenient and livable once we settle in. Hope you come back to the city and looking forward to hosting you again! Shimpei

Shimpei's house was absolutely fantastic. It had everything we needed - including extremely helpful instructions in English for everything in the house, and really good recommendations for restaurants nearby. He was always reachable and was flexible with our check in/out. I would recommend his place to anyone staying in Kyoto

My family and I (4 adults and 2 young children below 3 yrs of age), had an amazing week staying in Shimpei's pavilion. The house was very comfortable and well equipped for all, including cot, high chairs, toys and books for the kids. The bikes provided were fantastic and were used most days - it is very easy to cycle around Kyoto. With a family It was wonderful being able to have the freedom of your "own home" - much more relaxing than staying in a hotel! The local area was great - quiet, relaxing, friendly, but with everything you need within walking distance Shimpei was super accommodating and extremely helpful and couldn't do enough for you (he even bought a stair gate for us, for added safety). We will definitely be recommending Shimpei's pavilion to all our friends!

Response from Shimpei:
Hi Faye, thank you for your stay and valuable comments and feedback and I'm glad to hear that family members feel as if they stayed home, which is one of my important concepts I've been building. I appreciate that you let me know that Yasaka Kansai airport shuttle was so useful. It seems JPY3500 is not different from train and is convenient because it directly comes to the house. I will definitely add it to my arrival information document (and I should try it by myself). Sorry about the number of plates - I was a bit lazy on this aspect. In any case, I hope we have a chance to meet again sometime in the near future. Shimpei

I'd recommend this AirB&B experience to anyone. A kind, helpful and friendly host; nice location in a quieter part of Kyoto and a lovely, clean, hi-tech house. We loved it and there were some very thoughtful extra touches.

In love with Kyoto and this property! It was everything we hoped for and more. Comfortable and well equipped accommodation in a beautiful city. Not only does the house provide a traditional feel but has been fitted with all the wonders of modern Japanese technology. Easy access to the local subway station (10 min walk) which connects you to all the parts of the city you will want to see. Bikes are also available at the property to get around the city and feel just like one of the locals. Cafe over the road from the house serves great coffee and snacks and worth a visit to introduce yourself to the neighbourhood. Great accommodation, fantastic experience and helpful host!

Response from Shimpei:
Thanks Simon for the stay and feedback. I'm glad to know that you like what I like about the house and neighbor. Bikes definitely help us as the station is 1 km away and many historic spots such as Golden Pavilion are just a bike distance away. I was also lucky to have that cafe over the road as the owner welcomes, guides, and takes care of my guests. I hope I can host you and your group again in the near future! Shimpei

Hello, I am working in a foreign professional firm and the apartment and machiya style house are my second houses in Kyoto. I picked these places because I wanted to stay away from busy, hectic work during weekends.

I was a mechanical engineer for eight years after university and earned an MBA in the US before joining the current firm. I like travelling both domestic and overseas and love talking with all different kinds of people from different cultures. I am also a big fan of great food in Kyoto and Kansai areas. One day I'd like to move to Kyoto and this is my first step to be closer to and familiar with the city. I stay once or twice in Kyoto over the weekend but since this place is so nice, I'd like to share this fun with some other people coming from outside of Japan.
