Other things to note
Cyprus is an ancient island, really... REALLY ancient. There have been remains of human settlements dating back almost 10000 years. That's a lot of history!
Spread all over is historical sites including the one just mentioned, open to the public and either free or very affordable.
Kourion is an archaeological site that dates back up to 7500 years and has been inhabited in varying degrees of prosperity until 12th century AD. Explore the town for hours and you still might not cover it all! Check it out about 15km west of Limasol putting it about 135km from Paralimni. I can personally say the drive is worth it =)
Into wine? Mountains? Quaint little mountain towns? In the heart of the Troodos mountains are several very old towns beautifully situated between valleys and vineyards. Check out the historical architecture and stay in some very different inns then what you may be used to.
A personal favorite of ours is the town of Omodos. Located about 40km from Limasol this little town will make a beautiful romantic getaway with traditional Cypriot food, music and lodgings.
A personal recommendation from Katie and I is to stay at:
Stou Kir Yianni
This inn which boasts an amazing Cypriot meze, (a traditional style of meal which consists of several dishes served one after another) and live music on the weekends. Rooms are original houses with little modification in the town right next to the inn. This helps when you've had perhaps a little more of the delicious wine then you maybe should have =)
None of this is to say there isn't enough to do locally but the entire island of Cyprus if full of new experiences that we want our guests to enjoy if they can!
