Minutes from the Brecon Beacons National Park and walking distance to the town of Llandovery. The Charcoal Hut is private, cosy and intimate. It's the perfect place to relax after a walk or ride in the Beacons and a dip in the hot tub makes a perfect end to the day.
We've added lots of little touches, such as premium freshly ground coffee, fluffy robes and even a pamper pack.
The hut and deck are totally secluded and not shared.

The space
Hand built by John and a local craftsman, from local larch, and furnished from local suppliers and by local artists, we've created a space we're told is welcoming, relaxing, spacious and rather special. Our woodland and gardens are being brought back to life and nature surrounds you in our charcoal hut.

You get exclusive use of all areas - The hut itself, which is more spacious than most, being 8ft tall and 8ft wide by 18ft long, the hot tub which is set to 39c and is petrfect for star gazing and also a deck with camp kitchen facilities and an enclosed shower and composting toilet. The shower is powerful and heated and the loo is a very modern solar powered one. All our guests have told us the shower is superb at night and the water pressure has been a pleasant bonus!

From finches to robins, buzzards to cranes and all sorts of small mammals, you're surrounded by the sights and sounds of nature. Otters have been seen regularly as have water voles and weasles.

We've tried to consider lots of small details, so you're able to unwind and relax here and we've got lots of places where you can sit and read, enjoy outdoor eating, or just soak up the sound of the small woodland stream flowing in the ponds.

We've created the deck so that you can enjoy breakfast or a barbecue, whilst watching the woods come to life. And you're walking distance to Llandovery to enjoy some great food, pubs and Welsh hospitality.

Where you’ll be

Myddfai, Wales, United Kingdom

Known for the Physicians of Myddfai, the earliest known herbalists, this is a stunning, historic farming community. Myddfai and Llandovery are each a mile and a half from North Lodge. A stone's throw from Brecon Beacons National Park. Motorbike and cycle friendly. The food in town is wonderful, from Tudor's cafe, where you can get a fantastic all day breakfast, to The Bear who serve the most wonderful Polish sausage, and burgers, all from local farms. There's a large artistic community, with potters, painters, wood carvers and rug makers all in the area. Walking and cycling are both amazing, and we are able to give you a guide to six local walks which you can take from our path.

Along with my husband John, I am your host at North Lodge. We moved here from London in 2014 and have fallen in love the with slower pace of life here. John makes charcoal and biochar in our woodland, and you're always welcome to get involved and help (it's the best kind of dirty weekend!) I am an Independent Celebrant and Business Mentor, and I travel quite a bit. We've been very lucky to travel a great deal over our lives (we're in our fifties now) and love to hear about other people's travelling adventures. We're very relaxed, and love the community feel to Llandovery - a small market town on the edge of the Brecon Beacons with fabulous people, plenty of good places to eat and some lovely pubs. We love to barbecue (and even do our Xmas dinner on the barbie each year) and hope you'll join us for an evening grill up. We're lucky enough to be in a dark-sky area and getting the recliners out and lying back to watch the night sky is a favourite pass time. We have a dog and two cats - Branston, Pickle and Lilly and John's mum also lives with us, in her own little park-home in the woods. The cats do roam free and love company, so expect visits and cuddles. Favourite movies: Saving Grace, Six days Seven Nights, Favourite TV shows: QI, Mock the Week, Travel Man Favourite Books: The Kite Runner, The Count of Monte Cristo, Favourite Music: Eagles, Floyd and Beethoven Favourite Food: barbecued chicken, chocolate brownies and anything made with coffee!

During your stay

We know you may be coming here to escape and experience some peace, so whilst we live at the cottage, and may work in the woodland, we will not approach the area around the hut during your stay.
